Migrating Continuous State Manager Rules (CSM) to the Rules Management application
The following one-time procedure describes what you need to do when you migrate CSM Rules to the Rules Management application. Rules Management should be in either ADMIN or FULL modes.
First, review the section Migrating from classic Rules for information about importing classic Rule Sets into the Rules Management Rules registry.
Manually importing CSM Rule Sets
Use the following steps to import and activate the distributed CSM Rule Sets AAORULBC, AAORULBD, AAORULBE and AAORULBG from classic Rules into the Rules Management application. You must also import your CSM group Rule Set to the Rules registry.
Select Import Ruleset(s) from the Tools portion of the EZAORUL view.
The IMPTRSET (Import Ruleset) view is displayed. For more information about this view, place the cursor on the view name and press PF1.
You will see a list of all the rulesets found in the local PAS BBPARM dataset.
- Use the T (Tag) line command next to the names of the CSM Rule Sets AAORULBC, AAORULBD, AAORULBE, and AAORULBG. You can also tag your user-defined CSM group Rule Set. For more information about the CSM group Rule Set, see Importing the CSM group Rule Set.
- Type IMPORT on the COMMAND line to start import processing.
For each Rule Set, BMC AMI Ops Automation displays a dialog where you can enter additional information to complete the import of the Rule Set. - Use the Append Ruleset to PASDef option assuming the PASDef already exists. Be sure to correctly specify the PASDef to which you want add the Rules Sets.
You can also bypass creating a VPL. For more information about associating a Rule Set with a PASDef, see the section Associating a RuleSet with a PASDef. - Press PF3 (END) to import the Rule Set named on the dialog.
The dialog closes to process the import and reopens with the next tagged Rule Set. - Complete the fields in the dialog for the next Rule Set and press PF3 to start the import.
Repeat the process until all Rule Sets are imported. - Once importing is completed, display the PASDEF view and enter the RM (Ruleset Members) line command next to the PASDef that you specified during the import process.
- Verify that the Rule Sets that were imported have an Initial Mode of ENABLED. If they do not, complete the following steps:
- Use the EDIT primary command to enter into edit mode.
- Use the SE (Set Enabled) line command to enable the Rule Set.
- Use the SAVE primary command to save the changes.
The next time the PAS is COLD started and BBPARM member AAOPLXxx has USAGE_MODE_RULES=FULL is specified, the Rule Set will be ENABLED as read from the Rules registry.
Importing the CSM group Rule Set
Each CSM group has its own group object event Rule Set. You must also import your CSM group Rule Set to the Rules registry and associate it with a PASDef.
You can find the name of the group Rule Set by viewing any panel in CSM.
The name of an group Rule Set is a combination of the string AAORUL followed by a two-character Rule Set ID. A Rule Set ID for a CSM group is kept in the CSM repository. You can view the Rule Set ID in the Ruleset ID field on the Group Detail Control panel for that group.

The information on this Group Detail Control panel is for a group named KMZ2. The Rule Set ID for this group is CM. With a Rule Set ID of CM, the PAS will enable a Rule Set named AAORULCM to manage the start, stop, and abends for the CSM group named KMZ2.
Before enabling the KMZ2 group for the first time, you must first import Rule Set AAORULCM and associate it with the active PASDef. You can import the AAORULCM Rule set and associate it with a PASDef using the same steps you use for the distributed CSM Rule Sets.
The next time the PAS is started COLD (using either VPOOL=RESET or VPOOL=NORESET) with Rules Management in FULL mode, the Rules in the imported CSM-related Rule Sets will be ENABLED in the PAS and ready to handle events.
