Enhanced logging to the JES2 job log

While a job is executing, its performance may change, often due to an operator command.  The job’s performance may be affected either negatively or positively, and it is often difficult to identify the cause after the fact.

By logging the appropriate information to the JES2 Job Log, the necessary information is readily at hand together with the rest of the job’s output and the need for system log scans is reduced.

SLM logs message DTM8557I in the JES2 Job Log of the affected jobs with the results of these operator commands when the indicated parameters are employed:

  • MVS RESET (E) command
    • SRVCLASS
    • QUIESCE
    • RESUME
  • JES2 $TJ command
    • SRVCLASS

The new and old service classes are logged for RESET SRVCLASS, RESET RESUME, and $TJ SRVCLASS.

The operator id is also logged for MVS RESET (JES2 does not supply the operator id when changing the service class).

These actions are logged for both SLM managed and non-SLM managed jobs.

Additionally, changes made automatically to SLM managed jobs by the following SLM features are also logged with the indicated messages appearing in the JES2 Job Log as well as on the consoles:

  • Late Job Acceleration. (DTM8551I, DTM8552I)
  • Service Class Reset Mapping. (DTM8527I)
