Getting started

The JAL Test Facility is an ISPF application. It is part of the ThruPut Manager ISPF interface, TMISPF. To invoke TMISPF you simply enter the command TMISPF at an ISPF command prompt. This displays the TMISPF Main Lobby menu as illustrated here:

- GoTo                                                                    Help
------------------------------- ThruPut Manager(R) ----------------------------
                                  Main Lobby
Command ===>

1 Applications              - Application Dialogs

2 Systems Programmer        - Systems Programmer Main Menu

3 Operator Commands         - Operator Commands Interface

4 Automation Services       - Automation Services for DBS and SLM

5 PCS                       - Production Control Services

X Exit                      - Exit Main Lobby

The JAL Test Facility is a systems programmer function, so you next select option 2 from the Main Lobby menu. This opens the Systems Programmer menu, as shown here.

- GoTo                                                                    Help
------------------------------- ThruPut Manager(R) ----------------------------
                           Systems Programmer Menu        Keylist not altered
Command ===>

1 CFMU                    - Control File Management Utility

2 JAL Test                - Job Action Language Test Facility

X Exit                    - Exit Systems Programmer Menu

From this menu, you select Option 2, the JAL Test Facility. JTF starts by displaying its opening menu, as illustrated below:

------------------------------ JAL Test Facility ------------------------------
Command ===>

          0 Defaults      - Update or display default library names

          1 JAL Process   - Edit and process JAL source statements

          2 Job Profile   - Perform Job Profile functions

          3 Evaluate JAL  - Test JAL simulation

          T Tutorial      - Present JAL Test tutorial

          X Exit          - Terminate JAL Test

At this point, it would be wise for you to take advantage of the tutorial that accompanies the JTF by selecting option T. It takes you step-by-step through the process of selecting and testing JAL and JCL, including initial setup procedures. The next few pages provide a brief outline of how the JTF works but it is intended to be a supplement to the online tutorial and help panels, not as a replacement.
