Using the MSU Cost Editor

To calculate the costs of running MLC products,

Cost Management

requires you to insert cost coefficients from your IBM license agreement into cost tables. Use the MSU Cost Editor to edit the cost coefficients for each MLC product on your system.

Cost Management sets the default value of the cost coefficients in these tables to zero. You must edit the cost coefficients in the cost tables by entering your actual cost coefficient values provided by IBM.

Note

You must specify the cost coefficients for your MLC products before you can use the MLC Software Contract Reporting, MLC Monthly Reporting, or MLC Planning tools. Similarly, you should edit the cost coefficients to reflect any changes to your pricing arrangements with IBM.

To edit the cost coefficients

  1. From the console, click Cost Management Tools.
  2. From the Cost Management Tools list, click MSU Cost Editor.
The MSU Cost Editor displays a list of MLC products as follows:image2020-9-4_15-52-43.png
  3.  In the MSU Cost Editor, perform one of the following actions:

    • To specify coefficients for a specific product, find the row for that product and click the Edit link in the Cost Coefficients column.
    • To specify or modify cost coefficients for individual Features of an MLC product, clickimage2020-9-9_20-15-27.pngin that product's row to display the product's available features; then click Edit in the Cost Coefficients column for the feature that you want.

A cost table displays the MSU ranges and their associated cost coefficients.

    Notes

  4.  From the Pricing Metric Type list, click the desired type to select its cost table for editing. You should edit a separate cost table for each Pricing Metric Type associated with the MLC product. A pencil GUID-4C305CF5-2EB8-4657-BBDE-D53F3C5B9790-low.pngnext to the Pricing Metric Type designation indicates that the cost table has been previously edited.

    Tip

You can edit multiple cost tables at one time. If you want to switch to another cost table, click Pricing Metric Type to select it. You can perform this action whenever you want to alternate between cost tables.

  5. Set the Base charge.

    Note

For Flat Workload License Charges (FWLC), you can only enter the flat price as MSU ranges do not apply to this type.

  6. Edit the cost coefficients values in the cost table, entering the coefficients provided in your IBM License Agreement. For each level in the MSU range, you can specify the cost coefficient associated with this MSU usage.

    Note

You can perform the following functions to all of the cost coefficients in the cost table:

    • Click Reset to defaults to reset the values of the selected Price Metric to zero.
    • Specify a percentage and click Apply to increase or decrease the cost coefficients by a percentage.
  7. If you want to edit the cost table for another Pricing Metric Type, repeat Step 4 through Step 6.
  8. When finished editing cost coefficients, click Accept.Cost Management applies your changes and closes the dialog box.
  9. Repeat Step 3 through Step 8 for each MLC product you want to edit.
  10. Edit the MLC products, click Save Changes.
