Setting up Cost Management to support CMP
The following procedure describes how to change
BMC AMI Cost Management
to enable the support of CMP.
CMP changes the pricing metrics, cost coefficient values, and reporting methods that are used to determine your MLC product costs. In order to enable Cost Management to support CMP, you need to:
- Edit the CMLC or MzNALC cost coefficients in the active cost table using the MSU Cost Editor Cost Management tool
- Change the pricing method to CMP using the Manage CPC Configurations Cost Management tool
- Rebuild the cost models for any month where CMP Pricing was in effect using the Run Task Now feature in the Manage Model Builder Tasks administration tool
To set up Cost Management to support CMP
- From the console, click Cost Management Tools.
- From the Cost Management Tools list, click MSU Cost Editor.
- In the MSU Cost Editor, open the cost table that will be active when Country Multiplex Pricing is in effect.
- In the Cost Coefficients column, click Edit for an MLC product version that is affected by Country Multiplex Pricing.
The Editing MLC Product dialog box is displayed. From the Pricing Metric Type list, click CMLC (or, if necessary, MzNALC) to select the pricing metric cost table for editing.
The Editing MLC Product dialog box displays the selected cost table.
- In the Base WLC box, enter the value provided by IBM.
Edit the Cost Coefficient values in the cost table, entering the coefficients provided by IBM.
For each level in the MSU range, you can specify the cost coefficient associated with the usage of that MSU.
In the MSU Base and Base Factor boxes, enter the IBM baseline values. The MSU Base and Base Factor values are used to determine the monthly cost adjustment that IBM adds to the monthly cost of using the MLC product. If you want to know the cost adjustment value, click Recalculate and the value is displayed in the Cost Adjustment field. If at any time the MSU Base or Base Factor change, you can reenter the new values and click Recalculate to view the new cost adjustment value.
It is important to note that when you enter values for MSU Base and Base Factor, Cost Management automatically calculates the cost adjustment. You do not need to click Recalculate for the cost adjustment to take effect.
Click Accept after editing the CMLC pricing metric.Cost Management applies your changes and closes the dialog box. In the Cost Coefficients column of the MSU Cost Editor, CMLC is displayed in the list of edited pricing metrics.
- Repeat Step 4 through Step 9 for each active MLC product in the cost table.
- Click Save Changes after editing MLC products in the MSU Cost Editor. Cost Management saves the changes to the cost table, which now includes cost coefficients for Country Multiplex Pricing.
From the Cost Management Tools list, click Manage CPC Configurations.
The Manage CPC Configurations dialog box is displayed.- Select Use Country Multiplex Pricing? to enable CMP pricing.Cost Management applies the change and in the Manage CPC Configurations tool, each CPC displays CMLC as the Pricing Metric Type.
- Click Save Changes. The Manage CPC Configurations saves the changes and closes. Cost Management will update the cost model for the current month with CMP after running the next scheduled Model Builder Task.
- (Optional) If Country Multiplex Pricing was in effect for a previous month, perform the following actions:
- From the Cost Management console, click Administration Tools.
From the Administration Tools list, click Model Builder Tasks.
The Model Builder Task Manager lists the tasks that you have defined. From the list, select the Model Builder Task you want to build and click Run.
The Run Task Now dialog box is displayed.- From the calendar in the dialog box, select the usage month when Country Multiplex Pricing was in effect. The usage month starts on the 2nd day of the month and ends on the 1st day of the following month.
- Click Submit.Cost Management runs the Model Builder Task. Check the Model Build Task status indicator at the top right of the console for the status of the task.
- Repeat Step 15.d through Step 15.e for every month that Country Multiplex Pricing was in effect.
You can now generate MLC Monthly Summary Reports for each month using CMP costs.
