Enabling Trace messages to the log file

BMC AMI Cost Management

does not automatically send Trace messages to the log file. When Model Builder Tasks encounter problems, you might want to enable Trace messages to assist in the troubleshooting process.

Once enabled, the Trace messages can dramatically increase the size of the log file, but are instrumental in resolving problems.

  1. From the console, click Administration Tools.
  2. From the Administration Tools dialog box, select Manage Model Builder Tasks.
  3. From the available Model Builder Tasks list, select the task that you want to enable Trace messages for, then click Modify.
The Modify Model Builder Task dialog box is displayed.image2020-8-7_17-47-54.png
  4. Click Advanced Options.
  5. In the Advanced Options dialog box, click the Trace tab.image2020-5-7_13-44-37.png
  6. Change the toggle switch to Toggle switch.png, click Accept.
The Advanced Option dialog box closes.
  7. In the Modify Model Builder Task dialog box, click Modify Task.
  8. In the Model Builder Task Manager dialog box, click Save Changes.Cost Management now writes the Trace messages to the log file. The Trace messages are available in the log viewer after the next scheduled model build runs for the task.

Since model builder tasks are usually scheduled for nightly runs, if you need to view Trace messages immediately, you must run the task manually. For more information, see Running-the-Model-Builder-Task-manually.

    Note

Enabling Trace messages applies only to the selected Model Builder Task. If you have more than one task that needs Trace messages, you must enable the messages for each task individually.

After you have finished troubleshooting, remember to disable Trace messages in order to reduce the number of messages in the log.
