Using the Manage TFP Configurations tool


Use the following procedure to create solutions for your TFP agreements. 

To create or add a TFP Configuration

  1. From the Cost Management Tools list, select Manage TFP Configurations.
    The Manage TFP Configurations dialog box is displayed. When you use the Manage TFP Configurations for the first time, the Available TFP Configurations field is empty. After you add the TFP configurations to the Manage TFP Configuration tool, the Available TFP Configurations field displays them.

    If you have already added configurations, the Manage TFP Configuration dialog box displays them. Any description that is provided is displayed under the configuration name.

    Note

    Configurations created in previous versions will display an invalid iconimage2021-4-29_17-40-27.pngbefore them, and a message saying that you need to update the Distribution Start date.

    To fix an invalid configuration:

    • Click Modify, select a distribution start date and click Modify Configuration.
    • Click Save Changes.

  2. Click Add or Click here to create a new TFP Configuration in the Available TFP Configuration field to create a TFP configuration.

  3. In the Name field, enter a name for the TFP configuration. 
  4. (Optional) In the description field, enter a description for the TFP configuration.
  5. (Required) In the Distribution Start field, select a year and a month or use the default to start a distribution period. 
  6. Click Create Solution.
    A solution New Solution 1 is created for you by default. You can rename it using the Solution Name field on the General tab. 

    Note

    You can create multiple solutions for each TFP configuration by using the Create Solution option. The Create Solution option has three further options—GeneralCost, and LPARs. To create a solution, you must complete the fields in each of these options. The General and Cost options require information defined by IBM, based on your agreement. The LPARs option lets you select the LPARs that belong to each solution in the TFP Configuration.

  7. On the General tab:
    1. In the Solution Name field, enter a solution name. 
    2. In the Solutions ID field, enter the solution ID provided by IBM. 
    3. Select DevTest if required. For more information, see Selecting-a-solution-for-DevTest.

  8. On the Cost tab:
    1. (Required) In the Annual MSU Entitlement field, enter the number of MSUs you are entitled to in a year for the solution.

      The Distribute Entitlement dialog box is displayed. The Distribute Entitlement dialog box displays the monthly distribution of MSUs in percentage and in numbers for the entire year starting from the Distribution Start month year you selected. The default percentage for a quarter is set as 8,8, and 9 respectively.

    3. You can edit the percentage for each month directly from the % of MSUs field.

      Note

      The total of the monthly distribution values should always be one hundred percent. 

    4. As you define the percentage for each month, the bar at the top provides a total of the percentage for the entire year. 
      One of the the following conditions might exist for the percentage bar:
      • If the total is below one hundred percent, the bar at the top of the dialog box turns Orange. The Accept button is disabled.
      • If the total is over one hundred percent, the bar turns Red. The Accept button is disabled.
      • If the total is one hundred percent, the bar turns Green. The Accept button is active.

    5. At any point:

      • To set the monthly distribution values to zero, click image2021-3-2_18-43-5.png.
      • To set the monthly distribution values to default, clickimage2021-3-2_18-43-28.png.

      Note

      Each solution includes one distribution entitlement value.

  9. In the Cost Per MSU field, enter the cost for each MSU. 

    Note

    If you have selected a solution for DevTest, thCost per MSU field is replaced by DevTest Fixed Cost field. For more information, see Selecting-a-solution-for-DevTest.

  10. Click Accept.
  11. In the Cost per MSU Over Entitlement field, enter the cost defined for each MSU after you exceed your MSU entitlement limit. 
  12. On the LPARs tab:
    1. From the Add LPARs to Solution list, select one or more LPARs to associate with your solution. 
      The selected LPARs populate in the Solution LPARs field and are automatically added to the solution.
    2. Use the month pickerimage2020-8-3_10-3-2.pngin the Add LPARs to Solutions field to select a month for cost modeling. 
      After you select a month, all the LPARs available for that month are displayed in the list.

      Note

      After you associate an LPAR to a solution, it appears flagged when selecting LPARs for another solution.

  13. (Optional) To remove one or more LPARs from a solution, in the Solution LPARs field, select the LPARs that you want to remove and click Remove.
  14. To add another solution to your TFP configuration, click Create Solution and repeat the steps in this procedure.
  15. Click Add Configuration
    The Manage TFP Configurations dialog box is displayed. The Available TFP Configurations field now displays the TFP configurations that you added.
  16. Click Save Changes.

Configuration changed message

Any change to a TFP configuration might impact the TFP Monthly Reporting. When a change is detected, the Configuration Changed message is displayed. 

The following actions will trigger the Configuration Changed message:

  • Creating or deleting a configuration
  • Changing Distribution Start month or year
  • Adding or deleting a solution from a configuration
  • Changing a Solution Name or Solution ID
  • Changing the LPAR allocation for a solution

The following actions will not trigger the Configuration Changed message:

  • Changing the Description
  • Switching to or from DevTest
  • Any changes in the cost fields

  1. Click Yes to update the changes.
  2. Click No to wait for the next Model Build process.

To delete a solution from a TFP configuration

  1. Click the solution that you want to delete in the Solutions list.
  2. Click Delete Solution and save the changes.

To modify a TFP configuration

  1. In the Manage TFP Configurations dialog box, from the Available TFP Configurations field, select a configuration.
  2. Click Modify.
    The Modify TFP Configuration dialog box is displayed.

  3. Modify the information by adding or deleting solutions or LPARs.
  4. Click Modify Configuration.
    The Manage TFP Configurations dialog box is displayed. 
  5. Click Save Changes.     

To select a TFP configuration template

In the Add TFP Configuration dialog box, click Template and select a TFP configuration from the list.
All the information that you provide for the selected TFP configuration populate the Add Solutions field.

Note

The Template option is enabled only when you have saved a TFP configuration in the Manage TFP Configuration tool.

To remove a TFP configuration

  1. In the Manage TFP Configurations dialog box, select the TFP configuration that you want to remove from the list.
  2. Click Remove.
  3. Click Save Changes.
