Overview of Cost Management support for Container Pricing

BMC AMI Cost Management provides full support for Container Pricing so that you can build cost models that are based on this new sub-capacity offering.

For more information about Container Pricing, see IBM Container Pricing.

IBM defines the following types of containers:

Container type

Description

LPAR containers

Contain whole LPARs

LPAR containers are specified by CONTAINER commands in the SCRT JCL SPECIAL DD statement. They are not reported in SMF Record Type 70 (RMF Processor Activity).

To specify LPAR containers in Cost Management, you need to add CONTAINER commands to your Model Builder Tasks. For more information, see Specifying-LPAR-containers-in-Cost-Management.

Collocated containers

Contain a part of the activity in an LPAR

The Collocated container part is defined in WLM as one or several Tenant Report Classes. The activity of Tenant Report Classes is reported in SMF Record Type 72 (Workload Activity, Storage Data, and Serialization Delay). Aggregated Collocated Container activity is reported in SMF Record Type 70 (RMF Processor Activity).

Cost Management provides automatic support for Collocated containers. All activity from Collocated containers is automatically processed by Model Builder Tasks from your SMF records and is included in your cost models. However, if you have cost models built by prior versions of Cost Management, you must rebuild the cost model for each month in order to generate MLC Monthly Summary Reports with costs that include container reductions. For more information, see Running-the-Model-Builder-Task-manually.
