Exporting a dashboard

You can export a dashboard to use it on a stand-alone, web-based application hosted entirely on your file system. You don't require a back-end web server to view this stand-alone dashboard. The functionality of a stand-alone dashboard is like that of a Smart Dashboard viewer in a permanent stakeholder role mode.

Important

Only an administrator or a content creator can export a dashboard, but the exported dashboard is available to anyone with access to the specified file system.

Warning

When you share stand-alone dashboard files with other users, security access to these files is controlled by the local operating system file system. BMC AMI Capacity Reporting product does not manage access to the stand-alone dashboard files. Make sure that you follow all security protocols.

When you open a stand-alone dashboard site, it displays the most recently published dashboards by default so that you can quickly start using this web-based application. A stand-alone dashboard site displays only those dashboards and workflows that are exported to it. It does not have access to any database and cannot refresh or produce new dashboards and charts on its own, but it can receive more data by a future run of the export process to the same location.

You cannot save data from this stand-alone dashboard site to the local file system. Any changes to the chart settings in the stand-alone dashboard site, such as visibility, color selections, and the most recently used dashboards, are saved in the browser's local storage and used when you open the dashboard or workflow in the same browser.

To export a dashboard

You can export the dashboards from the Smart Dashboards landing page or from an open dashboard.

To export a dashboard from the Smart Dashboards

  3. In the Enter the shared folder location for the export field, enter the target folder path and click Test.
Your target path can be relative to the application server. For example, you can use c:\export1, d:\myexport, or a network share location accessible to the application server (\\my-server\share1).

This action makes a call to the server to verify whether the provided shared folder is accessible to the server for the next export. If the test fails, you get a failure message, but you can still keep the entered target path.
  4. To update all the selected dashboards with the target path information, click Set Folder for Dashboards.
This action does not perform a test. If the file path is invalid, you receive notification only after the next export.
  5. To stop exporting of dashboards, click Revoke Dashboards.
The following confirmation message is displayed. Click Yes to stop the exporting of the dashboards. This action cannot be undone.
    image-2024-6-4_12-40-21.png

  6. To export the dashboards, click Export Dashboards.

This action sends a notification to the server to verify whether the provided shared folder is accessible to the server for the next export. If the test fails, you get a failure message, but you can still keep the entered target path.
  4. To update all the selected dashboards with the target path information, click Set Folder.
This action does not perform a test. If the file path is invalid, you receive notification only after the next export.
