Changing the chart appearance

This topic describes how to change the appearance of a chart.

To change the chart appearance of a metric

Click the More Actions option corresponding to a category : metric

All metrics with the same unit value, regardless of the category, appear on the same chart axis and are affected by axis-related changes.

The More Actions includes the following tabs:

The following table describes the tasks that you can perform on the Series tab:

Purpose

Action

Make every data point for the current category:metric appear as a bullet point

From the Show value markers menu, select On, Off, or Auto. The default value is Off.

Important

  • Enabling value markers for large amounts of data can impact chart rendering performance.
  • Enabling or disabling this option at the metric level affects the value markers for all objects under that metric.
  • Enabling or disabling this option at the object level affects only the value markers for that object.

Selecting the On option makes every data point for the objects of the current category:metric appear as a bullet point.

Selecting the Auto option lets the chart decide when to show the markers. If there are too many data points to show the markers clearly, the chart disables the markers until you zoom in to a point where they can be displayed.

To see the data points of a particular section of a chart, click and drag the cursor to select that section. The chart zooms in to show the value markers in that section.

To select a marker style for the bullet points, select one of the following options from the Marker Style list: Circle, Square, Diamond, Triangle, or Triangle-down.

Label the data points

Select Show label markers. All data points for the objects of the current category:metric display the values associated with them.

Important

  • Enabling value markers for large amounts of data can impact chart rendering performance.
  • Enabling or disabling this option at the metric level affects the data labels for all the objects under that metric.
  • Enabling or disabling this option at the object level affects only the data labels for that object.

Change the chart type at the metric level

Select the relevant chart type from the Series Type list:

  • Line—generate a line chart
  • Area—generate an area chart
  • Column—generate a column chart

Stack all series for a given metric

From the Stack Series list, select one of the following to stack or unstack all series for a given metric:

  • Unstacked(Default) Unstacks all series for a given metric.
  • Stacked—Stacks all series for a given metric.
  • 100%—Stacks all series for a given metric and converts the series values into a weighted percentage out of 100 percent.

Stack charts by object or by metric

From the Stack Options, select:

  • Per metric by object: (Default) Creates one stack of objects per metric for each interval. For example, totaling LPAR utilization % or MIPS.
  • Per object by metric: Creates one stack of metrics per object for each interval (metrics must be from the same category instance and have the same unit value).  For example, totaling different response time metrics.

Manage display of total instances value

From the Show total menu, select:

  • On: Displays the total line in the legend
  • Off: Does not show the total line for the metric
  • Auto: Displays the total line only if there is more than one object

The default is Auto.

Use Custom Series Label

Select Custom Series Label check box and enter a custom format.

The Custom label must contain at least one filter variable to proceed to the next step. Using this option, you can customize your object labels for a metric. It supports special placeholders such as {filter1} to {filterN}, where N is the number of filters in the filter bar for a specific category or metric.

Appropriate filter values are used to replace the corresponding filter placeholders, and the remaining format string is kept the same. Make sure that the filter placeholders are spelled correctly.

Important
If the text in the user label is more than 25 characters, a warning is displayed indicating that the label may be too long for display purposes.

For example, if the default label is, ABC\PQR\XYZ\UVW and if you want to apply a custom format such as MyNewLabel: {filter2} - {filter4} then the updated label is MyNewLabel: PQR - UVW.

The Templates option lists all formats and the associated views where the format is applied for the given category:metric. You can click any format to apply to your current metric including the original default label format.

Exclude aggregated filters in series labels

Select Exclude Aggregated Filters in Series Labels check box to exclude the aggregated filters values (Agg) from the series labels.
