Exporting a dashboard

The Export Dashboards feature creates a stand-alone dashboard site, a web-based application hosted entirely on the file system provided by you. You don't require a back-end web server to view this stand-alone dashboard. The functionality of a stand-alone dashboard is like that of a Smart Dashboard viewer in a permanent stakeholder role mode.

Important

This feature is available only to Administrators and Content Creators.

Warning

When sharing a stand-alone dashboard with other users, the security access to these files are controlled by the local operating system file. BMC AMI Capacity Reporting product does not manage access to the stand-alone dashboard files. Make sure you follow all security protocols.

When you open a stand-alone dashboard site, it displays the most recently published dashboards by default so that you can quickly start using this web-based application. A stand-alone dashboard site displays only those dashboards and workflows that are exported to it. It does not have access to any database and cannot refresh or produce new dashboards and charts on its own.

You cannot save data from this stand-alone dashboard site to the local file system. Any changes to the chart settings in the stand-alone dashboard site, such as visibility, color selections, and the most recently used dashboards are saved in the browser's local storage and used when you open the dashboard or workflow in the same browser.

To export a dashboard

You can export the dashboards from the Smart Dashboards landing page or from an open dashboard.

  2. Select the dashboards that you want to export.

  3. In the Enter the shared folder location for the export field, enter the target file path and click Test.
Your target path can be relative to the application server. For example, c:\export1, d:\myexport, or a network share location accessible to the application server (\\my-server\share1).
This action makes a call to the server to verify whether the provided shared folder information is accessible to the server for the next export. If the test fails, you get a failure message, but you can still keep the entered target path.
  4. To update all the selected dashboards with the target path information, click Set Folder for Dashboards.
This action does not perform a test. If the file path is invalid, you will know only after the next export.
  5. To revoke the exporting of dashboards, click Revoke Dashboards.
The following confirmation message is displayed. Click Yes to stop the exporting of the dashboards. This action cannot be undone.

  7. To access the exported dashboard site, see To access the stand-alone dashboard on your file system.

To export a dashboard from an open dashboard

The Dashboard Export panel displays your dashboards list and the current export status of each dashboard. The currently open dashboard is highlighted in green and displayed at the top of the list.

The Last Export status and the date and time hyperlink displays information related to the last export attempt. It might include error or warning messages.
  2. Select the dashboards that you want to export.
If you have too many dashboards, use the search field to look for the relevant dashboards. You can also use the Sort By or Select All options to select the dashboards.
  3. In the Enter the shared folder location for the export field, enter the file path and click Test.
This action sends a notification to the server to verify whether the provided shared folder information is accessible to the server for the next export. If the test fails, you get a failure message, but you can still keep the entered target path.
  4. To update all the selected dashboards with the target path information, click Set Folder.
This action does not perform a test. If the file path is invalid, you will know only after the next export.
  5. To revoke the exporting of dashboards, click Revoke Dashboards.
A confirmation message is displayed. Click Yes to stop the export. This action cannot be undone.
  6. To export the dashboards, click Export.

    Important

The Revoke and Export buttons next to a dashboard in the list revokes or exports just that dashboard.

You can schedule and run the Dashboard Export tool daily to export the dashboards to update the information related to alerts.
