Defining shift profiles


This topic describes how to delete, modify, select, or delete a shift profile in the Manage Shift Profiles dialog box. 


   

Manage Shift Profiles dialog box

You can define, modify, select, or delete a shift profile by using the Manage Shift Profiles dialog box, which includes the following options:

  • Calendar—Creates events using the calendar. You can exclude an event from analytics or mark the event date in the chart view. For more information, see Managing-calendar-events.
  • Datasource Shift Profiles—Lists the following types of shift profiles:
    • Default profiles, which are non-Data Source Name (DSN)–specific, include the following types of the profiles:
      • Product-provided profiles provided with the product (indicated byimage2022-11-3_13-56-46.png)
      • Profiles that you created in an earlier version (indicated by image2022-11-3_14-28-24.png
    • DSN-specific profiles, which is created by using the data source that you configured with the CDB Automator.

To add or define a shift profile

  1. In the BMC AMI Capacity Reporting console, select the Administration Tools option, click Manage Shift Profiles
    The Manage Shift Profiles dialog box is displayed. The DSN-specific profile may or may not include a shift profile depending on whether you have previously created one or not.
    If a shift profile is currently in use, a message below it says <profile shift name> being used, and the other shift profiles display Default being used.

    Important

    When you select a shift profile from the Datasource Shift Profiles list, it is marked as your default shift profile and is used for analytics.  

  2. From the Datasource Shift Profiles list, select a profile either from the Default Profiles or a DSN-specific profile and clickimage2022-11-2_13-5-54.png
    The Add Shift Profile dialog box is displayed. 

    Important

    If you have selected a DSN-specific profile, then the system uses your data sources and generates a shift profile. This is a suggested profile that you can modify according to your requirements.

  3. In the Profile Name field, specify a name for the shift.
    If you have selected the default profile, then the Manage Shift Profile dialog box includes the Select Template option. You can select a template to create a shift profile.
  4. In the SYSPLEX field, select a Sysplex group profile from the list.
    The Default group includes all the SMFIDs not already allocated to other Sysplex groups. After you select a Sysplex group profile from the list, the SMFIDs relevant to that group are populated in the SMFIDs field.
    You can delete a SMFIDs and regenerate a Sysplex to see the modified shift profile. For more information, see To regenerate a Sysplex.
  5. To add a new Sysplex to the SYSPLEX list, clickimage2022-11-2_14-39-6.png.
  6. In the Add SYSPLEX pane: 
    1. Specify a name in the Sysplex Name field.
    2. In the SMFIDs field, add a SMFID and clickimage2022-11-2_14-39-6.png.
      The SMFID gets displayed in the SMFIDs list. You can add multiple SMFIDs. 
      If the SMFID that you want to add already exists in a different group, you will be prompted to move it from the other group to the group you have selected. Click Yes to move it to the Sysplex group you are using. Click No to cancel.
    3. Click Accept.
  7. In the Shifts field, clickimage2022-11-2_14-39-6.png. 
  8. In the Add Shift field:
    1. Enter a shift name. 
    2. Select a color for the shift from the Shift Color list. 
    3. Click Accept.
      The profile shift is added to the Shifts list. For more information, see To modify a shift.
  9. To define the hours in a shift:
    1. From the Shifts list, select a shift.
    2. In the profile shift grid, select the shift hour, the shift is added to the grid. You can select a row, or individual cells in the grid.

  10. Click Find and then click a cell in the profile grid to find that shift in the Shifts list. You can use this option to modify a shift profile.
  11. Click Eraser and then click a cell in the grid to erase the shift for that hour.
  12. Click Add Shift Profile to save the profile.

To regenerate a Sysplex

When you add or delete a SMFID from the SMFIDs field for a Sysplex group, the Regenerate for <SYSPLEX name>option becomes active. 

Click Regenerate for <SYSPLEX nameto regenerate a modified Sysplex.

To modify a shift

You can modify or delete a shift from the Shifts list as follows:

  1. On the Shifts list, click image2022-11-4_11-52-53.pngnext to the shift that you want to modify.

    In the Modify Shift, you can change the profile shift name and color.
  2. Click Accept to save the changes.

To delete a shift

On the Shifts list, clickimage2022-11-4_12-4-39.png next to the shift that you want to delete.

To select a shift profile for analytics

In the Manage Shift Profiles dialog box, from the Datasource Shift Profiles list, select a profile by selecting the radio button next to it.

If it is a BMC product-provided shift profile, you can only select or view it. 

If it is any other shift profile, you can select, modify, or delete it.
