Working with out-of-the-box workflow templates

BMC AMI Capacity Reporting provides several Out-of-the-box workflow templates. These templates do not use any specific filter values (with a few exceptions), they use dynamic options that can be applied to any data. The date or timespans used are also dynamic.

The workflow templates use the following filter options:

Option

Description

ALL

All objects are shown (sometimes with the aggregate option).

Top or Bottom N objects

Only one metric (most of the time) is shown for multiple objects.

Important

For better readability of the chart:

    • When a category/metric selection has multiple objects, it is best to select only that metric.
    • When a category/metric selection has only one object, you can select multiple metrics.

Specific values

Use for filters that have the same selections (for example, Filters for Processor type, Subsystem type, or Importance level).

Important

If you use any of the BMC Out-of-the-box workflow templates as they are, you might create very densely populated charts and reports.

To use the out-of-the-box workflow templates

You can use the workflow templates in the following manner:

  1. Select a template from Workflow Templates in the Create Workflow pane.
  2. Create a workflow suitable to your environment by making changes to the workflow template. It can take a significant amount of time to retrieve the data and create the views of your choice in the workflow.
  3. Starting from the root View, which is the leftmost View on the Workflow screen, select the Filter values based on the target of your research. For example, CPC, Workload, Application, and so on.
Alternatively, select filter values based on the results displayed. For example, CPC, Workload, the Application with the highest activity or the Service Class with the highest Performance Index.
  4. Select the same filters in subsequent Child Views to reduce the data and produce meaningful reports and charts.
