Using Filter Actions


This section describes how to use the Filter Actions.

Filter Actions menu contains the following options:

Option

Description

Clear All Filter Selections

Clears all filter selections for the selected category in the current report view

Important

The selection of Metrics is not changed.

Propagate Filter Selections


Propagates all the filter selections of the selected category in the current report view to all its descendant views

Important

The Propagate Filter Selections appears only when the current report view has at least one user selected filter and at least one child report view.

This option modifies any child report view and its descendants with the compatible category filter selections from the current report view.

Advanced Filter Options

The Advanced Filter Options enables you to:

  • Select a metric for Top N ranking or Bottom N ranking
  • Adjust lower and upper band sensitivity for a specific metric to control the granularity of the statistical calculations

To clear all filter selections

Click Filter Actions, and then click Clear All Filter Selections.

Give confirmation to clear all the filters.

All of the filters in the filter bar for the currently selected category are set to their default values.

To use Propagate Filter Selections

  1. Select the parent view, click Filter Actions, and then click Propagate Filter Selections
    Confirm to propagate the filter selections to all descendants of the current report view.

    A child view that inherits the filter selections is highlighted with a red border. Click on that child view to display the data from the inherited filter selections.

    When you propagate filter selections from a parent view, it is propagated to all the descendants, but only those descendants that have not yet inherited the filters are updated. The updated views are highlighted with a red border. Click on the highlighted views to display the data from the inherited filter selections.

To use advanced filter options

  1. On the filter bar, click Filter Actions, and then click Advanced Filter Options.
    The Advanced Filter Options pane is displayed. By default, it displays the Ranking tab.

  2. From the Select the metric that will be used for ranking list, select a metric.
    These metrics are from the Metrics filter on the filter bar. You can use only one metric for ranking. By default, the Workflow Builder uses the first metric in the list for ranking. 
  3. Select the relevant option in Select Ranking order.
    If you select Top as the ranking order, the ranking is done using the top objects based on the selected ranking metric.
    If you select Bottom as the ranking order, the ranking is done using the bottom objects based on the selected ranking metric.
  4. Adjust the number in the Specify the number of instances to return field by using the slider or the arrow buttons.
    By default, the number of instances to return is 10. 
  5. To see the objects that are not selected in the ranking order as a single aggregated object, select the Show remaining objects as aggregate check box.
  6. Click Lower and Upper Bands tab.
  7. From the Select the metric that you would like to adjust, select a metric.
  8. In the Exception Band Sensitivity field, set the Upper Limit and the Lower Limit of the band by using the slider.

    Important

    Adjusting the band limits can increase or decrease the number of alerts that can be triggered.

  9. Click Save Advanced Options.
    The view is updated. Expand the view to see the banding in the chart.

To use the chart

Double-click a view to see the chart as follows:

The features in the chart are explained as follows:

When you hover over a chart, a tooltip is displayed. The tooltip shows the data for the objects selected for ranking. The item on the tooltip that has "others" listed in its instance ID displays the aggregate of the remaining objects that were not selected for ranking (only when Show remaining objects as aggregate is selected).

This series represents the aggregate of the remaining objects that were not selected for ranking. This is displayed only when you select Show remaining objects as aggregate.

The Upper and lower band range. It is displayed when you select the Banding option.

To undo the ranking of metrics in the Advanced Filter Options

  1. In the Ranking option, select the first metric in the list. 
  2. In the Select Ranking Order, select Top.
  3. Set the number of instances to return as 10.
  4. Click Save Advanced Options.

To undo the Lower and Upper Bands in the Advanced Filter Options

  1. In the Lower and Upper Bands option, select the first metric in the list.
  2. Set the Upper Limit and Lower Limit sliders to the middle.
  3. Click Save Advanced Options.
