Viewing alert summary
The Smart Dashboards enables you to view an Alert Summary.
The BMC AMI Capacity Reporting nightly process creates the alert summary on the Smart Dashboards. After all the data is populated into the BMC performance database, the product runs a utility. Typically, this utility is scheduled to run nightly so that it can update all the workflows associated with dashboards and update the alert statuses on the Alert Summary page.
Nightly process and alerts
The nightly process has the following functions:
To reevaluate all workflows according to the time specifications entered in the Dynamic Data Timespan field.
- To reevaluate the workflows, each time the nightly process executes, it retrieves new data from the database and makes this new data available to both the Workflow report view and the dashboard.
- To reevaluate all alert rules specified in the category and metrics charts, apply them to the reevaluated result and generate alerts (if any).
- By default, all workflows associated with dashboards are reevaluated and all other workflows are skipped. Using the -w command line flag includes all Workflows regardless of whether they are associated with a dashboard or not.
Generating alert rules
To generate alerts, the nightly process reevaluates the default alert rules, and applies them to the latest data. The statistical boundaries that you specify in the Banding option of the Workflow Builder defines the alerts boundaries. Each alert rule works for one category and one metric. The alerts generated by the nightly process are displayed in the Dashboard Alert Summary pane on the Smart Dashboards.
