VSAM and non-VSAM options
When the Optimization mode is specified without other tuning options, Data Optimizer dynamically evaluates a variety of criteria and selects optimum techniques and values.
Most of the time, Data Optimizer’s decisions yield maximum benefits. Occasionally, however, you might want to specify values not selected by Data Optimizer. Data Optimizer offers a wide variety of tuning controls for customizing Data Optimizer processing to your applications and environment. These controls can be used to alter buffer value specifications, set maximum buffer values, and so on for both VSAM and non-VSAM processing.
Data Optimizer can also selectively apply certain optimization techniques to VSAM or Non-VSAM. For example, you can have Basic Non-VSAM output processing established and Advanced processing for all other Open modes (such as Input) at just the Non-VSAM level. For the same data policy that also applies to VSAM, you can specify that you only want Basic optimization mode. This provides a certain level of control over which Optimization mode needs to be applied at the VSAM and Non-VSAM level of the data policy involved.
