Record format option


With the Record format option, you specify the pipe record format.

The following sources are searched (in the order listed below) to find the record format value of the pipe:

  • RECFM that is specified for the pipe or the replaced data set within the application (for example, if DCB is specified)
  • RECFM that is specified in the JCL for the pipe or the replaced data set
  • Value that is specified in this parameter in the rule

The record format must be compatible with the pipe record length and block size. The pipe record format must be identical for all of the participants in the pipe. If a file is created with the pipe, the file gets the same DCB attributes as the pipe.

Note

BMC recommends leaving this option empty so that the pipe will have the same attributes that were used for the replaced data set.

  • FSA – fixed standard ISO/ANSI standard
  • FSM – fixed standard machine control
  • FBSA – fixed blocked standard ISO/ANSI control
  • FBSM – fixed blocked standard machine control
  • V – variable
  • VB – variable blocked
  • VA – variable standard ISO/ANSI control
  • VM – variable machine control
  • VBA – variable blocked ISO/ANSI control
  • VBM – variable blocked machine control

Default value

No default exists for the writer.

The default record format (RECFM) for the reader is copied from the pipe after the pipe is initialized with the writer’s values.
