Create Unique Value Access Path Definition

This access path defines the data elements that will be combined to produce the unique value.

To create a Unique Value Access Path definition:

1. From the Resource Administration stack bar on the Data Privacy Menu, select Manage Translate Tables. The Manage Translate Tables view appears.
2. Select the desired translate table. Click the Access Paths' Add button and select UVT. The UVT Access Path dialog box appears.
3. Enter a Path Name or accept the default path name.
4. Select the Sharing level you want to use (you can choose only one). Choices include:
   • Project: Share within the project.
   • Global: Share across projects.
   • No sharing: Create a new unique value table for each disguise execution.

5. Click in the UVT Field Label field and type a field label.

   Important

   The UVT Field labels are names for the parts of the UVT key. When a UVT access path is chosen in a Translation Rule Action definition, the labels are mapped against the data elements or variables. The order in which the labels are defined is the order in which the key will be compiled from left to right.

6. Click in the Length field and type a length for this field.

   The length specified for the label is the length of the value derived from the mapped source while forming the search key.

   If the actual source value is less than the size defined for that part, the value will be right-padded with spaces before appending to the Key value. If the actual size is more than the defined size, the value will be truncated.

   Assume that the UVT key would be represented by two string values with a maximum size of 10 characters and 15 characters respectively. If the actual data elements associated with these UVT fields are 5 and 12 characters in length, the UVT key will be formed using the value from the data elements in the order defined, and padded with white space to the lengths of 5 and 10.Consider the length carefully to avoid the potential for truncation. If the values used in the UVT key are truncated, it is possible that a non-unique key value could be created and disguise two distinct records with the same replacement value. 

7. Click OK. Your access path now appears in the Access Path list.
