Action Definitions


The actions that can be taken from the various ISPW/Eclipse views are defined below.

  • assignment-new.pngAdd New Assignment - Invokes the dialog box used to create an assignment
  • Add to Active Assignment - Adds the selected files to the active assignment container.
  • add-to-assignment.pngAdd to Assignment - Definition varies by context:

    • Adds the selected task to an assignment
    • Adds this component to the assignment selected in the ISPW Containers view.
    • Allows the user to set the criteria for the add to assignment action and, optionally, check the selected files out to the TEST leve
  • add-to-assignment-checkout.pngAdd to Assignment with Checkout - Adds the selected task to an assignment and simultaneously checks it out.
  • approvals-view.pngApprovals - Switches to the ISPW Approvals view for the selected task.
  • Approve - Approves the change package. This menu option is only available if the selected tasks require an approval.
  • back.gifBack - Backs off from the prior “Go Into”.
  • Build - Allows users to use ISPW/Eclipse to compile impacted components.
  • Browse - Brings a component to the workstation and opens it for browsing.
  • Browse With - Allows the user to select the internal editor or external program to use to open a component for browsing.
  • cancel.gifCancel - Deletes the selected assignment or release container.
  • checkout-lock.pngCheck Out - Definition varies by context:

    • Checks out a component version so updates may be applied
    • If multiple versions of a component exist in the ISPW repository, the Component Versions dialog box appears so the user can select the version to check out.
  • Check Out to Active Assignment - Adds the selected files to the active assignment container and checks them out to the TEST level.
  • clean.pngClean Up - Cleans the ‘in process’ flags, allowing more operations to be requested against this component. If the component is associated with a set, an attempt is made to terminate the set.
  • delete.gifClose - Changes the selected assignment or release container to inactive
  • compare.gifCompare/Merge - Compares two component versions to see how they differ and, optionally, to merge the data from both component versions if both are at the TEST level.
  • Compare Merge - Displays the Compare With dialog box, which gives information about the component versions for the selected tasks. From this dialog box, a task can be selected to be compared with the task you selected within a supported view.
  • compare.gifCompare Versions - Compares two component versions to see how they differ.
  • compare.gifCompare With Each Other - Compares two components to see how they differ.
  • Copy - Copies cell contents so they can be pasted elsewhere using the Paste action.
  • Copy-to-Workstation - Copies components to the workstation at the user-defined location
  • Create an ISPW project - Opens the New Project wizard to allow the user to create a new ISPW project.
  • remove.gifDelete - Removes the selected task from this assignment.
  • deny.pngDeny - Denies approval.
  • deploy.pngDeploy- Deploys software components into execution environments.
  • Deploy with Options - Allows users to make modifications to a set that processes the deployment and then deploys software components into execution environments.
  • Edit - Brings a component to the workstation and opens it for editing in the default editor. Editing can only be done in the TEST environment.
  • Edit With - Brings a component to the workstation, allows the user to select the desired editor, and opens the component for editing. Editing can be done in the TEST environment.
  • Expand or Collapse View - Expands or collapses the levels of the graph.
  • export_wiz.gifExport - Saves this list to local workstation in spreadsheet format.
  • 09 - For a component in production, immediately reinstates the prior version of that component.
  • Fallback with Options - Allows users to make modifications to a set that processes the fallback and then reinstate the prior version of a component that had been promoted into production.
  • filter.gifFilter - Customizes the view to show only the items that meet the specified criteria.
  • magglass.gifFind Assignment - Launches the Find Assignment dialog box in which users can search for the assignment to be set as the active assignment in the ISPW Assignment view.
  • magglass.gifFind Component - Invokes the dialog box used to find a component in any stream, application, or subapplication based on component name and/or type.
  • magglass.gifFind Release - Launches the Find Release dialog box in which users can search for the release to be set as the active release in the ISPW Release view.
  • generate.gifGenerate - Submits a batch job to perform, for example, a compile/link/bind of the selected components.
  • generate_impacts.pngGenerate Impacts - Switches to the ISPW Generate Impacts view for the selected component.
  • Generate with Options - Allows a user to make modifications to a set that processes the generate, set generate parameters if customized in the ISPW instance, and then submit a batch job to perform, for example, a compile/link/bind of the selected components.
  • Generate With Parms - Launches the Generate Options dialog box on which users can set parameters for the generate process. Displays only if customized in the ISPW instance.
  • forward.gifGo Into - Shows only the selected directory and its subdirectories.
  • cmd_parent.gifGo Up - Changes the display to show files in the parent folder relative to the current folder.
  • Hide Connections or Show Connections - Toggles the connection lines between nodes on or off.
  • home_active.gifHome - Shows the entire directory tree again (after one or more “Go Into” actions).
  • call_hierarchy.gifImpacts - Switches to the ISPW Impacts view for the selected component.
  • Import-PDS-Members - Allows users to import external PDS files (datasets and members) into ISPW and create new tasks from them.
  • Manage-Users - Joins/unjoins users for the selected container.
  • release-new.pngNew Release - Invokes the dialog box used to create a release.
  • task-new.gifNew Task - Lets users create a new task in a selected container or to add a task to an assignment.
  • parts.gifParts - Switches to the ISPW Parts view for the selected component.
  • Paste - Pastes cell contents that were copied using the Copy action.
  • Print - Prints the life cycle graph.
  • promote.gifPromote- Immediately moves the selected tasks to the next life cycle level.
  • Promote with Options - Allows a user to make modifications to a set that processes the promote and then moves the selected tasks to the next life cycle level.
  • promotionanalysis.pngPromotion Analysis - Performs a version audit to check whether there will be any version conflicts preventing the selected tasks or container from being promoted into Production.
  • Properties - Definition varies by context:

    • When clicking properties.gif in the Containers view, invokes a Properties dialog box appropriate for the selected component thus allowing users to modify the attributes of the component.
    • When right-clicking a task, displays the Task Properties dialog box showing the task's properties.
    • When right-clicking in the Components view, displays the Component Properties dialog box and allows the user to modify the component description.
    • When clicking properties.gif in the Servers view, opens the Server Details dialog box, which gives information about the status, .ini file, log and trace path, and server files.
  • refresh.gifRefresh - Definition varies by context:

    • Rebuilds the list with current data from the hos
    • Rebuilds the task list with the current data from the host and rebuilds the generate and promote list from the persisted data stored in the workspac
    • The ISPW project can be refreshed at all levels (projects, folders, and files), which refreshes the selected node and its descendant
  • Regress - Immediately moves the selected tasks back to the previous level.
  • Regress with Options - Allows a user to make modifications to a set that processes the regress and then moves the selected tasks back to the previous level.
  • Remove from Release - Removes the selected task(s) from a release.
  • reset.gifReset - Clears any approvals or denials from the set and returns it to "Approval Required" state.
  • Set-specific actions: The available set-specific actions depend on the execution status of the set. For example, Stop is only available if the set is executing. Note that some actions require that the set be unlocked first and that Browse may be available even when there is no set log available to browse. Only the applicable actions appear in the submenu and that, when multi-selecting sets, only the actions that are applicable to all selected sets appear.
    • open_log.gifBrowse - Browses the selected set's log. The log is created when a set starts processing for the first time.
    • Close - Closes the selected set with a completed or terminated execution status.
    • delete.gifDelete - Deletes the selected set. A set cannot be deleted if it contains a task. To remove a task from a set, unlock the set and then issue the cleanup action from any supported view.
    • 09 - Reinstates the immediately previous versions of all components, backing out the entire set that has promoted components into production.
    • suspended.pngHold - Holds the selected set that is in a Released or Waiting execution status.
    • lock.gifLock- Locks the selected unlocked set. To be locked, a set must contain one or more tasks.
    • modifyset.pngModify Set>Properties - Invokes the Modify Set dialog box, which allows users to modify attributes of the set.
    • play.gifRelease- Releases the selected set that is in a Held execution status.
    • restart.gif08 - Restarts the selected set that is in a Failed execution status.
    • stop.gifStop - Stops the selected set that is in a Waiting execution status.
    • terminate.pngTerminate - Terminates the selected set that is in a Failed execution status.
    • unlock.gifUnlock - Unlocks the selected set. A set can only be unlocked when the execution status is Released or Held. It may be necessary to put the set in Hold status before unlocking a set.
  • getcompileinfo.gifShow Compile Diagnostics - If there are compile errors during a generate, the Problems view appears and shows the errors found. See to the Build and Generate topics for more information.
  • inactive-tasks.pngShow Inactive Tasks - Toggles whether inactive tasks show. Inactive tasks are hidden by default.
  • inactive-tasks.pngShow Inactive Versions - Toggles to show/hide inactive component versions.
  • Sonar Lint - Enables developers to rapidly delivery quality COBOL by providing them with automated on-the-fly quality and standards checking.
  • Submit-JCL - Submits the selected JCL.
  • task-history.pngTask History - Switches to the ISPW Task History view for the selected task.
  • Transfer-Task - Moves the task from one assignment to another (to reorganize work).
  • Update/Replace Version - Changes the “can replace version” to override strict version control.
  • component-versions.pngVersion List - Switches to the ISPW Component Versions view for the selected task.
  • component-versions.pngView-Component-Versions - Opens the ISPW Component Versions view, which allows the user to view a list of the versions of a given component that are currently in the life cycle.
  • View Deployments for the Set - For any task that is associated with either a deployment set or a set that is part of a deployment set, displays that deployment set in the ISPW Deployment view. Also updates the ISPW Deployment view's filter with the deployment set ID in order to filter the view based on that deployment set.
  • generate-list.pngView Generate Impacts - Browse the listing from a prior generate.
  • View Generate Job Output - Opens the contents of the generate JES job in an editor.
  • View Generate Listing - Displays the compiled source listing that the IBM compiler generates after a Generate action has been issued.
  • View Impacts - Opens the Impacts view.
  • life-cycle.pngView-Life-Cycle - Definition varies by context:

    • Displays the life cycle graph for the components selected
    • Displays the life cycle graph, which shows all component versions listed in the ISPW Component Versions view regardless of which was selected in the ISPW Component Versions view.
  • task-notes.gifView Messages - Displays messages associated with this deployment request. This action is enabled only if the first column (‘!’) contains a plus sign (+).
  • task-notes.gifView Messages>Add Note - Adds comments to the selected task.
  • task-notes.gifView Messages>Task Messages - Shows task messages related to the selected task.
  • package-details.pngView-Package-Details - Drills down into the deployment request to show the packages and items and perform package actions.
  • parts.gifView Parts - Switches to the ISPW Parts view for the selected component.
  • deploy.pngView-Request-Details - Drills down into the deployment request to show the packages and items and perform package actions.
  • task-list.gifView Tasks - Switches to the ISPW Tasks view showing the selected task in the container.
  • visualizeimpactsicon.jpgVisualize Impacts - Displays a graphical representation of the results of an impacts analysis.
