File-AID Data Editor
The purpose of File-AID Data Editor is to allow you to edit or browse z/OS data from a PC without having to access the "green screen". Within the
Topaz Workbench
premium Enterprise Data version, support for browse edit of tables and views in distributed relational database systems via a JDBC connection is also provided. You can view or modify your data directly from your PC using
Topaz Workbench
or Eclipse. The File-AID Data Editor Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been created using the Eclipse environment. File-AID Data Editor is designed to provide a single user interface to manage z/OS data stored in DB2, IMS, z/OS datasets, distributed RDBMS, or z/OS UNIX files. Inherent in the interface are facilities to help you to select, view, and understand the data you are working with. When working with DB2 and RDBMS data, column names and formats are determined from the database catalog. To provide field names and formats for IMS or z/OS files, you may optionally provide COBOL or PL/I record layouts. File-AID layout cross reference members (XREFs) can be created, edited, and used to automatically match record layouts to data records. When working with IMS and z/OS data, each segment or record is treated the same way as a RDBMS row, and individual fields defined in record layouts are treated the same way as a RDBMS column. You can change the view of your data by hiding rows or columns, filtering rows, freezing columns so that they remain stationary when scrolling the rest of your columns, bookmarking rows making it easier to locate them, and clearing filters, removing bookmarks, and redisplaying hidden rows and columns. You can also find and replace your data, copy selected data to the clipboard, export data to a local file in a number of formats, rearrange the display order of columns, insert, repeat, and delete rows, and much more.To gain access to the File-AID Data Editor from Topaz Workbench, you must have a license for the mainframe version of File-AID that you want to use to access z/OS data. For example, you need a license for
File-AID for Db2
in order to work with z/OS DB2 tables, a license forFile-AID/MVS
to work with your z/OS datasets and z/OS UNIX files, or a license for File-AID for IMS to work with IMS databases. When you access z/OS data with the File-AID Data Editor, you will be required to provide logon credentials consisting of your mainframe logon user ID and password. Security will be provided by allowing you to access only the data you would be able to access if you were logging on to the mainframe directly. For
Topaz Workbench
users, File-AID Data Editor provides support for distributed RDBMS data in Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, or DB2 LUW. ATopaz Workbench
Enterprise Data license is required.Who should read this help
