Create a New Metadata Extension

A metadata extension is created specifically for a project and used only by that project. You can only add a new metadata extension to a project if your role assignment allows it.

Creating metadata extensions allows you to specify conditions for activating fields within a REDEFINES. The default is to use the first definition with the set of definitions.

To create a new metadata extension:

  1. Select and open the desired repository and project from the Data Privacy Explorer view.
  2. Select the Extensions tab for the open project. This opens the Metadata Extensions view.
  3. Click Add. This opens the Host Explorer Dataset Selection view.
  4. Expand Hosts. All of the hosts that are configured appear in the Hosts list.
  5. Expand the desired Host. If a logon is required to access the desired Host, a logon dialog box will appear and you must log on at this time.
  6. Navigate the host to locate your metadata (COBOL layout with REDEFINES), then select the desired metadata object and click OK. Your metadata extension layout will now appear on the Edit Metadata Extension view.
  7. Select a definition from the Name column and set the desired condition using the drop-down menu in the Condition column. The default behavior is to use DEFAULT for the base layout. To use one of the REDEFINES definitions, first set the Condition for the base layout to IGNORE, then select the desired REDEFINES and set its condition to DEFAULT.
  8. To use one or more REDEFINES definitions based on source data content, create an expression to evaluate the data before applying an extension. Select a definition from the Name column and set the related Condition to EXPRESSION. The Expression Builder appears.
  9. Select the Resources tab and use the Field components, for example Data Type, to build an expression to evaluate the data, then click OK. Repeat as needed for desired layouts.
  10. When all the desired conditions have been set, click OK. The Coverage Display can be used to view how the metadata extension is applied to the selected data.
