Translation
The translation technique replaces source values with ones that are retrieved from a table of replacement values. When translation is selected, you will choose from a list of predefined tables and access paths.
After the translate table and access path have been selected, you will select the project resources to be replaced and map translate table data to the value being replaced. These fields are selected from lists of possible fields. The project resource to replace list includes the data elements in the project, any variable defined within the rule, and any string or number public variables. You must map each selected item to a field from the translate table.
The translate table referenced within a rule is used whenever that rule is applied. The same rule could be applied to both mainframe and distributed data. Whether the disguise rule is applied by File-AID/EX or File-AID/Data Solutions, the same translate table is used.
Translate table definitions and access paths are defined under Resource Administration - Manage Translate Tables; see Manage Translate Tables for more information on access paths.
The translate table can be stored in z/OS files, DB2 tables, and distributed DBMS tables. All of these sources are available from each of BMC Compuware's File-AID products that use Data Privacy.
