Browse and Edit Components


A component can be brought to the workstation and opened for browsing or editing using the default editor defined in Window>Preferences>General>Editors>File Associations. Alternatively, from some views, users can select the desired internal editor or external program to be used to open the component.

To open a component for browsing in the default editor

From an applicable view, right-click the desired component and select Browse.

To select the desired editor and open a component for browsing

  1. From an applicable view, right-click the desired component and select Browse With.

    Note: To open a component that has not been checked out, the Component Versions dialog box appears for the user to select the version to open, if there are multiple versions in the life cycle.

    The Editor Selection dialog box appears.

  2. Select the program to use to open the component. The component is then copied to the workstation and opened with the selected program.

To open a component for editing in the default editor

From an applicable view, right-click the desired component and select Edit.

Note: To open for editing, the component must be checked out and not be promoted (as indicated by Checkout in the Operation column). Otherwise it opens for browsing.

  1. From an applicable view, right-click the desired component and select Edit With.

    The Editor Selection dialog box appears.

  2. Select the workstation program with which to open the component and click OK. If the component is checked out, it opens for editing in the selected program. Otherwise it opens for browsing.
