Getting Started with the File-AID Data Editor

The topics will help you get started using the File-AID Data Editor.

Note

The Data Source Explorer is now part of the File-AID/Eclipse perspective. See the Data Tools Platform User Documentation for additional information.

To use File-AID Data Editor for mainframe data, you must define an HCI host connection and connect Topaz Workbench or Eclipse/RDz to a mainframe system. To define your connection, click Window > Preferences, then expand Compuware > Host Connections and add an HCI host connection before continuing.

A host connection between the mainframe host and the Compuware Plug-ins should have already been defined during the installation and configuration of the Compuware Plug-ins. If you do not have host connection information (typically a port number and a host name), contact your system administrator to obtain specific connection configurations for your site for establishing Host Connections. (For system administrators, see the Topaz Workbench Installation Guide for additional information on installing and deploying the Plug-ins.)

Note

When using File-AID Services in support of File-AID Data Privacy in Topaz Workbench, Host and JDBC connections are centrally configured on the server and available to all users that define File-AID Services in their Compuware preferences. To configure connections on the server where File-AID Services is running, click Window > Preferences, then expand Compuware > Host Connections > File-AID Services Connections.

To use File-AID Data Editor for distributed RDBMS access, you must define a database JDBC connection and connect Topaz Workbench to your database(s). To define your JDBC connection, click Window > Preferences. Then expand Compuware > Host Connections, select the JDBC tab, and click Add to add a JDBC database connection before continuing.

Note

For Oracle and DB2 LUW, you must provide supported versions of database drivers. Click Window > Preferences, then expand Compuware > JDBC Drivers. In the Edit JDBC Drivers dialog box, select either Oracle or DB2, and click Edit to define the location of your drivers as needed. If you define a driver that is not supported, you may receive an "unverified version" warning message. Refer to the Topaz Workbench Host Explorer User Guide for more information.

Note

If either a host connection to a mainframe port or a JDBC connection to a specific relational database is defined both locally and on the server where File-AID Services is running, only one connection (the File-AID Services connection) will appear in the list of configured connections in the Host Explorer view.

Note

In both the File-AID Data Editor and the Data Source Explorer (now part of the File-AID/Eclipse perspective), the following z/OS DB2 column types are not supported:
• DECFLOAT
• LOB (including BLOB, CLOB, and DBCLOB)
• XML.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
