Function identifier

UCS

Description of usage

UCS is, as the name implies, a facility to allow users to control their work without the need for intervention by Operations. As such, there is little need for operator commands.

One aspect that might require attention is the manner in which jobs released from an MHS_USER hold are handled. You can promote a job over jobs that have arrived earlier by setting its arrival time; however, jobs with arrival times that are earlier than the newly set arrival time are still selected first.

To influence the selection order of newly released jobs in the same Service Class, use the UCS SET command:

/UCS SET NOW

This command causes jobs just released from MHS_USER hold to appear to have arrived at the time they were released. Alternatively, the command:

/UCS SET 2

would cause such jobs to appear to have arrived 2 hours before the time at which they were released from MHS_USER hold.

To have jobs retain their original arrival time when released from MHS_USER hold, use the command:

/UCS SET OFF

Note that when a job is released, UCS applies the UCS SET value specified for the system where the release occurred. Since this could result in asymmetric behavior, we recommend that any change made with the UCS SET command be repeated on all systems in the JESplex.

To display the current settings for UCS:

/UCS DISPLAY
