Types of displays

ThruPut Manager supports two types of displays:

  • Unsolicited displays.

These are displays of data or information that have not been specifically requested, such as error messages or messages logging various activities. Unsolicited displays are the output of Communication statements, which use data defined by MSGDEF statements:

    • WTO displays a message on an operator console.
    • WTU writes a message to a job's log or SYSMSGS data set.
    • WTCA7 displays a message upon a CA7 logical terminal.
  • Solicited displays.

These are displays that have been specifically requested by an operator or user. Solicited displays show data that has been collected by ThruPut Manager, formatted for display by JOB_DATADEF Definition statements, and associated with individual jobs by the JOB STORE Action statement. They can be requested in two ways:

    • The JOB DISPLAY operator command.
    • The User Display Facility.

Both MSGDEF and JOB_DATADEF support the same formatting features when defining data, as described as follows.
