Batch Service

No other product or solution addresses the z/OS batch service environment directly and holistically. With standard z/OS, goals and constraints are approximated using JES2 classing and WLM performance settings. The trade-offs are not easy to specify or manage, and feedback is obscure and inappropriate for the various audiences.

BMC Compuware ThruPut Manager has added constructs to manage batch as a service. The result is a powerful batch engine that runs your batch more efficiently and according to your service goals, with minimal manual intervention. Escalation is automatic as BMC Compuware ThruPut Manager adjusts to heavy loads and resource constraints, using the service goals as a guide.

Throughout all its functions, BMC Compuware ThruPut Manager is guided by the service goals for a job, by its relative importance to other jobs, by datacenter constraints, and by system load and available capacity. We have created the Batch Service Metric, based on straight- forward wall-clock values, to express these goals and guide the automation engine. Displays and reports use the same metric to give feedback.
