Specifying batch service goals
With BMC Compuware ThruPut Manager, batch service for a job is defined as the time spent in the JES2 queue, before execution begins. Once the job starts to run, BMC Compuware ThruPut Manager has no control over its CPU and IO requirements. They are not part of what BMC Compuware ThruPut Manager can manage in order to deliver optimal batch service.
The desirable service time will vary for different workloads and that’s where the power of the Batch Service Metric becomes evident. For each Service Group in your
BMC Compuware ThruPut Manager
Policy, you define the Target, Acceptable and, optionally, Critical service goals (i.e., queue time goals) for that workload in simple wall-clock time.
Each job inherits the Target, Acceptable and Critical service goals from the Service Group it belongs to.
BMC Compuware ThruPut Manager
endeavors to deliver the desired service for each job using its queue management and job selection methodology that has already been described.
