A PS and GS comparison
Which service should you use, Production or General? Should you use both or just one?
Some datacenters find if all their workload for a JESplex is ad hoc and unscheduled, then General Service groups are sufficient.
On the other hand, if their workload for a JESplex is production work then either queue can be used, depending on the advantages of each. GS Groups have better naming conventions, and the ability to stop at acceptable. The advantage of the PS Groups is the preferential treatment they receive when a GS workload is also present.
When there is a mixture of both types of workload, just GS Groups can be used if that is enough differentiation. When more differentiation is needed the combination of PS Groups and GS Groups gives you the extra layers of importance and more nuanced escalation strategies.
Your situation will be informed by the following comparison of the Service Groups.
