Repeating group options
Relevant to you?
Do you have job trees (with the same name) that repeat throughout the battle plan. PCS needs a separate acceptable time for each of them in order to determine their lateness and process them appropriately. Thus a Repeating Group is a collection of two or more instances of a repeating job tree.
In CA 7 you can ensure that a job tree is executed repeatedly during a day by:
- Making a header job of the job tree a repeating CA 7 job, or
- Scheduling the header job multiple times during the same day with different CA 7 schedule ids.
How does it work
PCS detects repeating job trees, and includes them in the Repeating Group List in the AMD dialog..
PCS takes into account that repeating groups may or may not complete before the next one starts. When one occurrence is expected to complete before the next one starts and the repeating tree has time to run twice before the next occurrence starts, PCS sets the acceptable time for an occurrence of the repeating tree to the starting time of the next occurrence. On the Acceptable Time Details panel, this is explained as Repeating Grp Elaps.Time.
When there is insufficient time to repeat the tree before the next occurrence starts, PCS sets the acceptable time to the starting time of the tree plus twice the elapsed time for the tree. On the Acceptable Time Details panel, this is explained as Repeating Grp Interval.
Alternatively, you can set the acceptable time for (each occurrence of) the repeating group by manipulating the following formula:
A=S+(E*Ce)+(I*Ci) +F
Where A is the acceptable time, S is the expected starting time, E is the expected elapsed time, and I is the interval between this and the next occurrence of the repeating tree. You supply values for:
- Ce - Elapsed Time Coefficient
- Ci - Interval Coefficient
- F - Flat Time
Specification
Since Repeating Groups are detected automatically and the acceptable time determined by PCS is usually sufficient, you only need to access the Repeating Group List panel to remind yourself of the repeating groups being considered, to delete obsolete repeating groups and to manipulate the above formula.

Note the highlighting:
- A white Group Name value indicates the group's acceptable time has been set by the user directly. Use the E - View/Edit command to update the values in the acceptable time formula.
- Yellow in the Referenced column indicates the repeating group has not been referenced by a battle plan for over 90 days.
- Red in the Referenced column indicates the repeating group has not been referenced by a battle plan for over a year.
You should delete repeating groups that are no longer relevant.
Runtime
PCS recognizes CA 7 repeating group jobs in the View/Edit sub-dialogs. A non-blank Rpt Num field tells you this is a repeating job. The number in the field tells you how many occurrences will run before this one; the value is zero when this occurrence is in progress or the next one to execute.
The dependence of one repeating job iteration on another is shown on the Preceding Job Instances panel, under the Trig./Repeat column, where the reference to the earlier job of the same name is listed.
