Sample Dataset Parameters

Detailed descriptions and default values for the parameters associated with the allocation of a Strobesample file are provided.

DSNAME=STROBE

Description: Specifies the high-level qualifiers of the sample dataset name. This value can be blank or when combined with the suffix parameter DSNSUFX=, contain up to 26 characters. You can use the following four variables:

  • &SYSTEM: generates the one- to eight-character system name in the dataset name. For example, CW09.
  • &SYSTIME: generates a seven-character time in the format Thhmmss. For example, T083222.
  • &SYSDATE: generates an eight-character date in the format Dyyyyddd. For example, D2017123
  • &RELEASE: generates a five-character Stroberelease number in the format Rnnnn. For example, R1802.

The DSNAME operand on the ADD and CHANGE operations can override this DSNAME value.

Default: STROBE

DSNSUFX=

Description: Specifies a low-order qualifier (suffix) for the sample dataset name. Valid values contain from one to eight characters.

Default: None

DSN_SPACE

Description: Specifies the Strobesample dataset space requirements

SPACE_UNIT=XXX
PRIMARY=nnnn
SECONDARY=nnnn

where XXX is TRK (tracks), CYL (cylinders), or BLK (block size) allocations, and nn is 1- 9999. Note that BLK is the block size from the BLKSIZE parameter (defined below).

Default:

DSN_SPACE
SPACE_UNIT=BLK
PRIMARY=1024
SECONDARY=3072
END

BLKSIZE=8192

Description: Specifies the block size for Strobesample datasets. System administrators should check the available storage on the systems where Strobeis running and increase this parameter to as high a value as possible. Valid values are 8192 to 32760.

Default: 8192

BUFNO=2

Description: Specifies the number of buffers assigned to the sample dataset. The buffer pool is allocated in the Measurement Services address space above the 16-megabyte line. System administrators should check the available storage on the systems where Strobeis running and increase this parameter to as high a value as possible. Valid values are 2 to 255.

Default: 2

RETPD=

Description: Specifies the number of days that sample datasets are kept on the host. Use RETPD only if you use DFSMS to manage your sample datasets. Valid values are 1 to 9999.

Default: None

ARCVID=MIGRAT

Description: Specifies the volume serial number used by DFHSM, or its equivalent, to indicate that a dataset has been archived; for example, DFHSM’s MIGRAT. Strobeuses this parameter in conjunction with the STRMGR parameter (defined below) to determine how archived sample datasets are processed. If you use two separate volumes (for example, MIGRAT1 indicating DASD, MIGRAT2 indicating tape), you still must specify MIGRAT, which is the default..

If CA Disk and the Locate Intercept are installed, then the Locate SVC will return MIGRAT even though externally it is cataloged to ARCIVE. Therefore, MIGRAT must be specified.

Default: MIGRAT

STRMGR=HSM

Description: Identifies the DASD management system installed at your site. Strobeuses this parameter in conjunction with ARCVID parameter above to determine how archived sample datasets are processed. Valid values are HSM, DMS, DMS2, SAMS, CADISK, FDR, and OTHER. The default is HSM with an archive volume of MIGRAT. Specify the value as follows:

  • If DFHSM is installed, specify HSM (default). StrobeHDELETEs archived sample datasets and allocates new ones.
  • If DMS release 8.1.7 or more current installed, specify DMS2. StrobeHDELETEs archived sample datasets and allocates new ones.
  • If DMS release 8.1.6 or less current is installed, specify DMS. Strobeun-catalogs the sample dataset and allocates a new dataset.
  • If SAMS is installed, specify SAMS. StrobeHDELETEs archived sample datasets and allocates new ones.
  • If CA Disk is installed, specify CADISK. StrobeHDELETEs archived sample datasets and allocates new ones.
  • If FDR is installed and supports HDELETE, specify FDR. StrobeHDELETEs archived sample datasets and allocates new ones.
  • Otherwise, specify OTHER. Strobeforces a recall of archived datasets.

If your site uses FDR as the DASD management system with the defaults for MIGRAT and RECALL, place the Strobehigh-level qualifier for sample datasets on FDR’s EXCLUDE list so that the datasets are not archived by FDR.

Default: HSM with an archive volume of MIGRAT

DATACLAS=

Description: Specifies the SMS DATACLAS parameter used during sample dataset allocation.

Default: None

MGMTCLAS=

Description: Specifies the SMS MGMTCLAS parameter used during sample dataset allocation. There is no default.

Default: None

STORCLAS=

Description: Specifies the SMS STORCLAS parameter to be used during sample dataset allocation.

Default: None

UNIT=SYSDA

Description: Specifies the direct access unit name used to catalog sample datasets. The UNIT operand on the ADD and CHANGE operations can be used to override the specified value.

Default: SYSDA

VOLUME=

Description: Specifies the direct access volume serial number for sample datasets. Valid values must be one to six characters. The VOLUME operand on the ADD and CHANGE request for the Strobemeasurement can override it.

Default: None
