Primary command descriptions


Primary commands are presented in this section in alphabetical order. The following information is provided for each command, as applicable:

  • Full name of the command with its abbreviation(s) in parentheses.
  • Purpose of the command.
  • Functions (Browse, Edit, Print, Selection Criteria, XREF, Reformat, and Compare), utilities (Copy, Search/Update, VSAM, and VTOC), and display modes (character, formatted, vertical formatted, or unformatted) in which you can use the command.
  • A syntax diagram that shows the full syntax required to execute the command including all parameters. If a parameter has multiple values, the values are stacked vertically.
  • The use of the command without and/or with parameters, as applicable.
  • Descriptions of each parameter. Abbreviations for the parameter, if available, are also listed.
  • Guidelines for the command not covered under one of the parameters.
