Line commands - COLS (COL)

The COLS (columns) line command displays the COLS information line to view column numbers.

COLS

Multiple COLS line commands can be executed on different lines at the same time.

If you enter the COLS line command on the TOP OF DATA line, the error message: INVALID ON THIS LINE is displayed. You can enter the command on any other line.

The displayed COLS information line retains its position within the data set during scrolling. You can remove the COLS line from the display with the D (delete) line command or the RESET primary command.

For a keyed data set, if you enter the COLS line command, File-AID displays a COLS information line that has a blank space before and after the record key. These blank spaces correspond to the blank columns inserted in the data display to delimit the key field.
