Using the translator

Data Solutions has a powerful Translator function that translates data based on a table of lookup and/or result values. The Translator accesses the translate table based on values from the fields specified on the criteria screen. When it finds a corresponding row, it returns the results and uses them to replace the specified output field value.

In this section, you practice using Data Solutions to translate data. The first example performs an area code split by searching for area codes and corresponding exchanges and replacing them with new area codes. The second example performs a unique search on the employee number and replaces the last names with names from the translate table. The third example demonstrates how to use the Translation Failed (TF) feature to assure that all records are disguised.
