Writer instructions

Purpose

Use this page to display a banner announcement on each page of the space. Create the Space announcements page in the master space, outside of the Home branch.

You can version the Space announcements page to enable different banners to be published into different target spaces, however, the banner that is displayed in the versioned (master) space itself only displays the most recently-published banner.  If you find errors in the banner area of your versioned space and you are sure the Space announcements page is set up correctly, try publishing the page to the same space.

For more information, see Space-announcements-banners.

Removing

When an announcement is no longer needed, remove the BMC Space Banner macro.

Translation

Localized spaces using the L10n Viewport theme must change the name of this page to Space announcements l10n.  See Configuring-the-Scroll-ViewPort-theme-for-translated-spaces.

Usage

Choose one or none of the following BMC Space Banner macros.

If your space requires another kind of announcement, you can use this page in coordination with your team lead and editors.

When should I use a space announcement banner?

Use the space organization announcement after you change the content from a book-like organization (such as User Manual, Configuration Manual, and Administration Guide) to the product model.

Use the latest version announcement to push traffic to later versions. You do not need to add this to every previous version, but if you have a specific reason that you want users to be aware—for example, Google searches show content for an obsolete version—use the banner to help users find a relevant version.

When an announcement is no longer needed, remove the BMC Space Banner macro.

Space announcement This documentation space provides the same content as before, but the organization of the content has changed. The content is now organized based on logical branches instead of legacy book titles. We hope that the new structure will help you quickly find the content that you need.

Getting started with File-AID for Db2 object administration

This section provides reference and user information for File-AID for DB2 Object Administration. Without coding SQL or JCL, you can create, alter, and drop Db2 objects and much more. It presents detailed information on the following File-AID for DB2 Object Administration features:

  • Window-driven user interface
  • Product options and user profiles
  • Db2 catalog and Db2 subsystem access
  • Primary and row commands.

Use this space to locate information about product conventions and features. Command listings are alphabetical and provide detailed information on syntax, availability, and usage. In addition to reference information, a complete user space and examples are provided to describe many of the tasks you can accomplish with the File-AID for Db2 Object Administration features.

The information in this space requires familiarity with IBM’s Db2 relational database and IBM’s Interactive System Productivity Facility/Program Development Facility (ISPF/PDF), hereinafter referred to as ISPF. No attempt is made to define the basic components of either product.

What’s in each section?

  • Product Overview: Brief descriptions of product features.
  • Conventions: General information about how File-AID for Db2 Object Administration works, such as the window-driven interface, Help Facility, etc.
  • Main Menu Selections: Description of each Main Menu selection.
  • Catalog and Subsystem Access: Descriptions of object display facilities. Information about connecting to Db2 subsystems, including remote locations, is also in this chapter.
  • Support for SQL and Commands: How to automatically generate JCL statements, SQL statements, Db2 commands, and DSN subcommands. Work buffers are included.
  • Options and Profiles: Information about File-AID for Db2 Object Administration characteristics specific to your user ID and your session.

Special function keys

Special function keys are enclosed in angle brackets ( < > ). Some of the special function keys are as follows:

<Cancel>

PF key that removes a window and its descendants. Deletes statements or commands appended to a work buffer. Usually defined as PF15 during a File-AID for Db2 session.

<Enter>

The keyboard Enter key.

<End>

PF key that removes a window and its descendants. Saves statements or commands appended to a work buffer. Usually defined as PF3 during a File-AID for Db2 session.

<Help>

PF key that displays Help information for the object on which the cursor is currently positioned. <Help> also accesses Smart Link. Usually defined as PF1 during a File-AID for Db2 session.

<Go>

PF key that executes a window’s contents or commits changes or signals a change to the next window in a navigation path. The message in the top border of the window always indicates the action that pressing <Go> will perform. If no message is in the top border about using <Go>, then <Go> has no effect. Usually defined as PF14 during a File-AID for Db2 Object Administration session.

IBM documentation

This space does not document DB2, Structured Query Language (SQL), Data Definition Language (DDL), or Query Management Facility (QMF) because it is assumed that File-AID for Db2 Object Administration users are familiar with the DB2 environment.
