Writer instructions

Purpose

Use this page to display a banner announcement on each page of the space. Create the Space announcements page in the master space, outside of the Home branch.

You can version the Space announcements page to enable different banners to be published into different target spaces, however, the banner that is displayed in the versioned (master) space itself only displays the most recently-published banner.  If you find errors in the banner area of your versioned space and you are sure the Space announcements page is set up correctly, try publishing the page to the same space.

For more information, see Space-announcements-banners.

Removing

When an announcement is no longer needed, remove the BMC Space Banner macro.

Translation

Localized spaces using the L10n Viewport theme must change the name of this page to Space announcements l10n.  See Configuring-the-Scroll-ViewPort-theme-for-translated-spaces.

Usage

Choose one or none of the following BMC Space Banner macros.

If your space requires another kind of announcement, you can use this page in coordination with your team lead and editors.

When should I use a space announcement banner?

Use the space organization announcement after you change the content from a book-like organization (such as User Manual, Configuration Manual, and Administration Guide) to the product model.

Use the latest version announcement to push traffic to later versions. You do not need to add this to every previous version, but if you have a specific reason that you want users to be aware—for example, Google searches show content for an obsolete version—use the banner to help users find a relevant version.

When an announcement is no longer needed, remove the BMC Space Banner macro.

Space announcement This documentation space provides the same content as before, but the organization of the content has changed. The content is now organized based on logical branches instead of legacy book titles. We hope that the new structure will help you quickly find the content that you need.

Overview of BMC Compuware File-AID products

This section provides information about the following topics:

File-AID Common Components

File-AID Common Components is required for any of the File-AID products running on a z/OS mainframe. File-AID Common Components also includes the communication technology used to facilitate the interaction between Topaz Workbench components running on a workstation and BMC's File-AID products running on a z/OS mainframe.

BMC Compuware File-AID/MVS

File-AID/MVS consists of two components: File-AID/MVS and File-AID/Batch.

File-AID/MVS is an interactive full-screen product designed to easily access and manipulate VSAM, BDAM, PDS, IAM, CA Panvalet, CA Librarian, and sequential files.

File-AID/Batch consolidates the functions of most standard IBM utilities by running a job and can print a report that includes the statistics of records processed.

BMC Compuware File-AID/Data Solutions

File-AID/Data Solutions is an interactive software product that allows you to use automated and repeatable processes to update information in your data files. It provides functions for converting euro currencies, aging dates for testing, encrypting sensitive data, translating data values, and generating test data.

File-AID/Data Solutions date analysis feature simplifies the identification of date fields and reports whether the data is valid or invalid.

BMC Compuware File-AID/Related Data XPERT

File-AID/RDX provides the ability to easily extract and load a complete subset of related MVS and/or Db2 data.

BMC Compuware File-AID for Db2

File-AID for Db2 is a self-contained Db2 database management and testing tool that lets you create, populate, customize and refresh data in your Db2 database with ease.

BMC Compuware File-AID for IMS

File-AID for IMS provides the ability to easily access and manipulate data within IMS databases.

File-AID for IMS/FLEX is a general purpose IMS database manipulation tool for use in modifying or reporting on the contents of IMS databases. File-AID for IMS/FLEX extends the capabilities of File-AID for IMS to the MVS batch environment.

Notation rules

Syntax diagrams define primary command syntax.

parameter is either a keyword or a variable.

All KEYWORDs are shown in uppercase characters and must be spelled exactly as shown. You cannot substitute another value. If any part of a KEYWORD is shown in lowercase characters, that part is optional.

Variables are user-specified values and are printed in lowercase italics. For example, dataset-name indicates you are to substitute a value.

Product Architecture

File-AID products are made up of a number of components accessible from either a standard terminal or from Topaz Workbench, an Eclipse-based modernized user interface.

We recommend a single SMP/E instance of File-AID (all FMIDs) to ensure maintenance compatibilities across all FMIDs, particularly File-AID Common Components.

File-AID Architecture

During the SMP/E installation, the majority of the elements for all File-AID products (File-AID/MVS, File-AID/Data Solutions, File-AID for Db2, File-AID for IMS and File-AID/RDX) are installed into the File-AID Common Components FMID. Only a few point product specific elements, that allow a product to execute, are included in the individual products FMID.

Installing multiple instances of File-AID requires separate SMP/E zones, resulting in duplicated maintenance. Multiple instances will also require multiple HCI Ports when configuring Topaz Workbench.

Different versions (i.e. 21.1 and 17.2) cannot be combined in a single HCI configuration.
