Code Split - Run dialog box

Use the Code Split – Run dialog box to launch the code splitting process (either procedure or file I/O splitting) of a COBOL program.

Note

Code splitting is only available for COBOL programs.

To use procedure splitting

If you are splitting by procedure, this dialog box is available by clicking Next in the Code Split – Selection dialog box.

  1. To change a specific complement or extract program name (that is, one of the names in the Entry Name column), click Edit Name.
  2. Click Run. If the output program already exists in the output directory, the Code Splitter displays a message box asking if you want to replace it. Click Yes or No. If code splitting does not complete successfully, a warning box appears stating why code splitting was not successful. For more information, see Level 3 verification.

The Code Split Finished dialog box will appear when code splitting is complete.

Note

During procedure splitting, the Code Splitter omits dead (unreferenced) code. Dead code does not appear in either the complement or extract programs.

To use file I/O splitting

If you are splitting by file I/O, this dialog box is available by clicking Next in the Code Split – Settings dialog box.

  1. To change a specific complement or extract program name (that is, one of the names in the Entry Name column), click Edit Name. The Code Splitter uses IOSPLTGN.CPY as the data transfer interface between the complement and extract programs. IOSPLTGN.CPY will be added to each output program. Verify that it is in a directory in your copybook path. Specify the location of IOSPLTGN.CPY on the Copybook Paths tab of the Settings dialog box. By default, it is in the UserDataPath specified during the installation (which is available in the About dialog box).

Note

Before compiling any file I/O output programs for use on the mainframe, transfer IOSPLTGN.CPY to the mainframe with your output programs.
