Exporting analysis results


Use the Export command to export property and other information about entities. The data is saved in a delimited text file that can be opened in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or similar tool.

To export from the Entities view or Properties view

  1. Do one of the following:
    • To export specific entities that you select, select from the Entities view the entities you want to export. Then, from the File menu, select Export>Selected entities.
    • To export all entities in folders you expand, expand in the Entities view the folders for all of the entities you want exported. Then, from the File menu, select Export>Expanded entities.

      The Save As dialog box appears.

  2. Select the delimiter you want to use for this export function.

    Note

    Choose a delimiter that does not exist in the data to be exported.

  3. Name the file and click Save. If you selected an existing file, a warning dialog box appears. Do one of the following:
    1. Click Overwrite to overwrite all of the existing data in the file.
    2. Click Append to add your new data to the bottom of the existing file.

To export the Impact Entities view or the Dead Ends view of the Impact Analyzer window

To export information about impacted entities, follow the steps below.

Note

Export functionality is only available for impact analysis run on a single entity. Batch impact analysis allows impact analysis results for multiple entities to be saved to a text file. For more information on batch impact analysis, refer to the Performing impact analysis topic.


  1. Make the Impact Analyzer window the active window.

  2. Select from the Type drop-down list the entity type you want to export information about.
  3. Select an item in the view you want to print—either the Impact Entities view or the Dead Ends view.
  4. From the File menu, select Export. The Save As dialog box appears.

  5. Select the delimiter you want to use for this export function.

    Note

    Choose a delimiter that does not exist in the data to be exported.

  6. Name the file and click Save. If you selected an existing file, a warning dialog box appears. Do one of the following:
    • Click Overwrite to overwrite all of the existing data in the file.
    • Click Append to add your new data to the bottom of the existing file.

      Note

      Exported impact analysis information includes the root entity's ID, name, type, and user label, which is not available in the Impact Analyzer window.

  7. If you want to export information about another entity type, select that type from the Type drop-down list, and repeat the steps above for exporting.


 

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
