Changing the user account the Metadata Server Service uses

If you change the download directory to a directory that is remote to the machine running the Metadata Server, the Metadata Server service must be assigned a user account that has authority to read the download directory or the Learning Process will not work properly. This is because the Metadata Server runs as a service and this service must have read access to the download directory so the Learning Process can have access to downloaded COBOL and PL/I source. If the download directory exists on the same machine where the Metadata Server runs, it is not necessary to assign a user account to the service.

To change the user account

  1. In the Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, then Services.

  3. On the General tab, click Stop to stop the Service.

  4. Click the Log On tab. Notice that the Log On As shows Local System. By default, the Local System account has read access to the Download directory that DevEnterprisecreates during the product installation. This directory is in the UserDataPath specified during the installation (which is available in the About dialog box).

  5. Select the This Account radio button.
  6. Enter the user ID and password of an account that has read access to the new download directory you chose. The Log On As changes to the user account entered.
  7. Click the General tab and click Start to start the service.
