Editing PDS member/data set


You can open any data set in edit mode and make the required edits. Workbench Explorer supports edit functionality for a file size maximum of 20 MB.  If you have installed BMC AMI DevX Workbench File-AID, you can use the Edit With option and the required option to edit members using the VSCode editor or File-AID data editor.

To filter and edit data set in edit mode

  1. Select the required HCI connection. You will see a notification to create an HCI connection if no HCI connection is found.
  2. Click the Add filter icon and search the data sets for the HCI connection.
    The data sets will be displayed under the filter.
  3. Expand the data set to view all the members.
  4. Right-click on the member name and click Edit.

    You can open the command palette and run

    DevX Explorer

    : Open PDS member command, to open the member in the edit mode.

    The data set will open in the edit mode and you can make the changes. When the data set is opened in the edit mode, it will get locked and you can see the lock icon (image2022-8-19_17-4-27.png) beside the data set. No other user can edit it. A notification message is displayed if any other user tries to access that data set. If the editor is closed then the lock is released.

    For a sequential data set, you do not need to expand. Right-click on the data set and select Edit

  5. From the menu bar, click File and then click Save to save your changes. You can also press Ctrl+S to save your changes. If you have enabled the Autosave option, the changes will be saved automatically.

If you want to edit the member with File-AID data editor, right-click on a member name, select Edit With, and select Data Editor



 

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
