Adding and removing COBOL program identifiers

You might have some MVS data set members that do not contain file extensions such as COBOL, COB, etc. that are crucial for this editor to identify the language of the file being opened. If you access COBOL programs from MVS, you can provide the data set names that contain COBOL programs so that its members will be opened as COBOL and not text files in the editor. You can now add the required filter to enable language identification.

To add the language identification

  1. On the VS Code application, click the Manage icon (image2022-8-23_21-35-26.png) > Settings > Extensions >DevX Explorer > IBM Z Open Editor.

  2. In the Zopeneditor:Datasets: Cobol Datasets option, click Add Item, enter the extension name, and click OK.

Important

This list will update the file.associations setting. To remove a mapping, remove it here first and then in the file.associations setting.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
