Remove a Task from a Set (Perform a Clean Up)

When an action—such as a checkout, generate, or promote—is performed within a set and the action doesn't complete successfully, the set may not terminate. This leaves the set in a Waiting or Failed execution status and makes it necessary to manually remove the task from the set before any further task actions can be performed.

To determine whether a task is associated with a set

For any view that supports tasks, the Set column contains a set ID, the task is associated with a set.

From the Containers view, double-click the set or select the hyperlink in the Container column, which opens the Set view. If the Set column is not shown in the view, add it.

To check the execution status of a task

Do one of the following:

  • From a view that supports tasks, right-click the task and select Modify Set>Properties. The Modify Set dialog box appears. The Execution status field shows the execution status of the task.
  • From a view that supports tasks, refer to the Status field.
  • From the Set view, click modifyset.pngor view the execution status in the properties table.

The following are valid set execution status values:

  • Stopped: Stops an executing set
  • Terminated: A set has been manually terminated
  • Complete: The set completed its processing
  • Failed: The user action failed
  • Released: The set has been unlocked or is not held
  • Held: The set should not execute when locked
  • Executing: The set is processing
  • Waiting: The task has started but has not yet contacted  to indicate that it is executing

To remove a task from a set that is in Waiting status

If a task is associated with a set that is in Waiting status, from any view that has tasks, the Set column will have a set ID and the Status column will indicate a waiting status (for example, "In Set process: Checkout waiting"). Do the following to perform a cleanup to remove the task from the set.

In a view that supports tasks, right-click the task and select Clean Up or, from the Set view, click clean.png.

Important

  • It may be necessary to instead perform a hold of the set, then an unlock the set before performing a clean up. From the Set view, click suspended.png, then click unlock.gif, and lastly, click clean.png.
  • Whether a set-specific action is available from the context menu depends on the set's execution status.

To remove a task from a set that is in Failed status

If a task is associated with a set that is in Failed status, from any view that has tasks, the set column will have a set ID and the Status column will indicate a failed status (for example, "In Set process: Promote failed"). Do the following to perform a cleanup to remove the task from the set.

In a view that supports tasks, right-click the task and select Clean Up or, from the Set view, click  clean.png.

Important

  • It may be necessary to instead perform a terminate before performing a clean up. From the Set view, click terminate.pngand then click clean.png.
  • Whether a set-specific action is available from the context menu depends on the set's execution status.
