Compare/Merge Versions

Different views allow component versions to be compared and merged:

• Use the Repository Explorer view to compare two components to see how they differ.
• Use the Component Versions view to compare selected component versions to see how they differ.
• Use the Tasks view, the Assignment view, the Release view, the Set view, the Project Explorer view, or the Life Cycle graph to compare two component versions to see how they differ and, optionally, to merge the data from both component versions if both are at the TEST level.

To use the Repository Explorer view

1. From the Repository Explorer view, select two components.
2. Right-click and select Compare With Each Other.  brings the components to the workstation and invokes the Eclipse Compare tool.

To use the Component Versions view

1. From the Component Versions view, select two component versions.
2. Right-click and select Compare Versions.  brings the component versions to the workstation and invokes the Eclipse Compare tool.

To use the Components view

1. From the Components view, select two components to compare with its versions.
2. Right-click and select Compare Versions.  brings the component versions to the workstation and invokes the Eclipse Compare tool.

To use the Generate Impacts view

1. From the Generate Impacts view, select a component to compare two versions of the same task or select two components to compare with two different tasks.
2. Do one of the following:
   • Right-click and select Compare With>Each Other to compare two different selected tasks.
   • Right-click and select Compare With> Version... to compare same task with different versions.
     1. The Compare With dialog box appears and lists any additional component versions that exist in the life cycle or inactive version for that task.
     2. Select the version to be compared with the version selected in the view and click OK.
3.  brings the component versions to the workstation and invokes the Eclipse Compare tool.

To use the Tasks view, Assignment view, Release view, Set view, or Project Explorer view

1. Do one of the following:
   • From the Tasks view, Assignment view, Release view, or Set view, right-click a version and select Compare/Merge.
   • From the Project Explorer view, right-click a version and select Compare With>Other Version.
2. The Compare With dialog box appears and lists any additional component versions that exist in the life cycle or inactive version for that task.
3. Select the version to be compared with the version selected in the view and click OK.  brings the component versions to the workstation and invokes the Eclipse Compare tool.

To use the Life Cycle graph

1. Right-click the task in a view that supports tasks, select View Life Cycle.
2. From the Life Cycle graph, Shift-click any two levels where tasks are in motion, then right-click and, from the context menu, select Compare/Merge.  brings the component versions to the workstation and invokes the Eclipse Compare tool.
