Browse, edit, and save sequential datasets, PDS members, and GDSs
To browse
Double-click or right-click the sequential dataset, PDS member, or GDS and select Browse. The selected resource is opened in the default editor for that resource.
To edit
Do one of the following:
- To open the resource, right-click the sequential dataset, PDS member, or GDS and select Edit. The selected resource is opened in the default editor for that resource.
- To choose which editor to use, right-click the sequential dataset, PDS member, or GDS, select Edit With, and choose the desired editor.
When a one of these resources is edited, it enters an in-use state on the mainframe. This prevents concurrent modification of the same resource. The icon for resources that are currently in use within Host Explorer is . Each resource stays in use until its editor window or the Eclipse-based environment is closed.
When one of these resources has been edited, it can be saved via any Save action. In addition, the Save As option can be performed within edited PDS members, which opens the Save As dialog box that prompts for the name to give the new member. If an error occurs while saving changes, an error message appears. If an attempt is made to close the edit tab without saving changes, a prompt to save your changes appears. The edit tab contains the dataset or member name and is marked with an asterisk when unsaved changes have been made to the contents.
