Working with the relationships tab

The Relationships tab includes an entry for each relationship in the source data file. Each relationship includes parent and dependent objects. Other data available for each relationship varies by object type. If they exist, relationship names are displayed. Each relationship is identified by the relationship thread number and a unique relationship number. The relationship number is assigned sequentially to provide an easy way to reference the relationship.

The entries in the Relationships tab can be sorted by clicking the column headings. Clicking a column heading a second time reverses the sort order.

You can easily distinguish between RI and AR relationships with the relationship Type column in the Relationships tab that can be used for sorting and filtering.

Each relationship is based on one or more columns, and this column information is available for each relationship.

The Relationships tab can be used to control the content of the Graphical View. Actions taken against the Relationships tab are applied to the Objects tab and the Graphical View.

The following actions are available in the Relationships tab:

  • Search for one or more relationships in the list. The search field acts as an inclusion filter. As each character of the search is entered, the content of the Relationships tab is reduced to only those items matching the search. Use the clear button to the right of the search field to delete the current filter string.
  • Find a relationship, parent table, or dependent table in the Graphical View
  • Hide relationships
  • Single column sort.

The arrow next to each relationship can be clicked to expand or contract the relationship so parent column and dependent column information is visible or hidden. Relationships can also be expanded and contracted by double-clicking. Use the expandallicon.jpg (plus) button to expand all relationships, and use the collapseallicon.jpg (minus) button to contract all relationships.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
