Create a New Rule Variable

Rule variables are created on the Rules tab, and allow you to store or accumulate values in a work field.

To create a new rule variable:

  1. Open the desired repository and project.
  2. Click the Rules tab. The Rules view appears listing all of the rules currently available for this project.
  3. Select the desired rule.
  4. In the Variables portion of the screen, click Add. The New Variable dialog box appears.
  5. Enter a Name for your variable. The name must be a valid Java identifier name. This means that the name must start with a valid alphabetic character. That can be followed by letters, numbers, or an underscore.
  6. Optionally, select the option to reset the variable for every source record read.
  7. Choose a variable Type. Choices include String, Number, String List, or Number List.
  8. Choose a variable scope. Choices include Private or Public.
  9. Enter an Initial Value for your variable.
