Creating and using the connection files

3270 Emulator supports multiple sessions. The settings for connection in files can be saved (with the extension topaz3270). A wizard helps create these files.

To create a Topaz 3270 Emulator connection file

  1. Do one of the following:
    • From the File menu, select New > Other.
    • Click image2021-8-12_12-31-11.png

      The New wizard appears.

  2. Toggle open the Compuware node and select 3270 Emulator Connection.
  3. Click Next. The New 3270 Emulator connection file dialog box appears.
  4. In the Enter or select the parent folder, select the project in which to house the connection information.
  5. In the File name field, enter name for the connection file. File names are given a .topaz3270 extension.
  6. In the Hostname field, enter the z/OS host system name or IP address. The Hostname field defaults to the value on the 3270 Emulator page of the Preferences dialog box.
  7. In the Port field, enter the port number to which Telnet is assigned to listen for client requests. The Port field defaults to the value on the 3270 Emulator page of the Preferences dialog box.
  8. Select the Use SSL check box to have connections to the mainframe use a Secured Socket Layer, if desired. Note that a secure connection will be initiated regardless of this check box's setting if the user logs onto a host:port that supports it. Selecting this check box, however, quickens the connection process.
  9. Select the Do not verify the host certificate check box to allow self-signed certificates, if desired. The hostname must match the name associated with the certificate.
  10. To display crosshairs (horizontal and vertical cursor ruler) in the emulator, select the Crosshair cursor check box.
  11. Click Finish. The connection is now ready for use and appears in Project Explorer under the chosen project.

To modify a 3270 Emulator connection file

  1. In Project Explorer, right-click the connection file and select Properties. The Properties dialog box appears.
  2. If not already selected, select 3270 Emulator in the left pane. The 3270 Emulator page of the Properties dialog box appears.
  3. Modify any parameter values and click OK.
