Tutorial: Metadata Specification

Non-virtualized Test uses an internal, language-independent representation of data structures and data items used by components. A data structure can contain other data structures and data fields.

When a component is added to the component repository, its data area is converted from the native language, for example, COBOL to the language independent metadata representation. The metadata can then be used to construct a concrete data area for the component. The concrete data contain values for each data field and can be converted back to the native language representation by using the metadata.
