Enter TSO console commands

The Console view can be used to enter TSO console commands (REXX and CLIST) and view the resulting response output.

To enter TSO console commands

  1. Do one of the following:

    • Type the desired command using standard TSO command syntax and press Enter. For example, to return the time, type time. To execute a CLIST or REXX from a dataset, type exec '<your dataset(member)>'. To enter a CLIST that takes parameters, type exec '<your dataset(member)' '<your space-delimited parameters>'.
    • Click history_list.gif. The Issue recent TSO Commands Console command dialog box appears. Select the desired command and click OK.

The command is executed and the results appears in the Console view when the command is complete.

  2. Do either of the following:

    • If the Console view is open, from the open_console.jpg dropdown list, select TSO Commands Console.
    • If the Console view is not open, from the Window menu, select Show View>Console. Then, from the open_console.jpg dropdown list, select TSO Commands Console.

The Console view appears.

Important

If a mainframe connection was not previously established, the Login dialog box appears, prompting for a connection and log-on credentials. The connection used by the Console view can be changed at any time by clicking connect.gif.

Important

If the user has insufficient authority to issue commands or a particular command, a RACF error will appear in the Console view.

Important

To cancel a command, click cancelcommand.gif. The request to the host is canceled and the Console view prompt appears so another command can be entered.

Important

The execution of any REXX exec or CLIST that is reliant on any ISPF services from the TSO command console is unsupported.

To have multiple consoles open concurrently

  1. Open a TSO Commands Console and establish a mainframe connection as described above.
  2. Click pin_console.jpg. This pins the open Console view.
