Task 2.2.2 install Workbench features into an Eclipse IDE, IDz, or an existing Workbench installation

Important

  • When installing the Code Pipeline or Data Studio features into Eclipse-based IDEs, make sure that the following software sites are included and enabled.
    • For Eclipse:
      https://download.eclipse.org/releases/2022-03/
    • For higher Eclipse levels, the equivalent level download site.
  • If you intend to use Workbench for Eclipse Datatools, make sure that the Compuware DB2 for z/OS using Topaz (base) feature is selected during installation. This plugin is not required if you intend to use the native Eclipse datatools plugins.
  • If you have installed IDz in the C:\Program Files directory, then you must launch IDz as an administrator (using Run as administrator option) to install Topaz plugins correctly. This is required because IDz can not write Topaz plugins to the program files directory without administrator privileges.

To install Workbench for Eclipse features into an existing installation of an Eclipse IDE:

  1. Download the p2 repository zip file via one of the following methods:
    • From the Topaz Workbench p2 repository link in the Workbench for Eclipse product order email.
    • From the Products > Topaz Workbench page under Downloads on the Support Central website.

  2. Unzip (extract) the downloaded file to a local directory.
  3. Within the IDE under Help, select Install New Software to add a Software Site.
    1. Click Add > Local to browse to the unzipped p2 repository folder (software site), named topazWorkbench_n.n.n.n, where n represents the release, version, maintenance level and build number.
    2. The Location field will now reference the p2 repository. Provide a name in the Name field. Click OK.
  4. Make sure that the Contact all update sites check box is selected.
  5. Click Next and follow the install wizard instructions to completion, selecting the features that you want to install.

    Important

Workbench for Eclipse release 20.05.03 and later are supported for installation into IBM Developer for z Systems (IDz) 15.1 and later. To use this support, Java Development Tools (JDT) and Debug Support must be enabled. Select Windows > Preferences > General > Capabilities > Development, and then select the boxes to enable Debug Support and Java Development.

  6. (Only for Eclipse IDE or IDz) Define the environment variable TOPAZ_JAVA_HOME.
If you do not want to define the environment variable, copy the jre folder to Eclipse IDE or IDz. For example, copy the jre folder from C:/Program Files/Java/jdk1.8.0_202/ to <Eclipse_IDE_installation_directory>/eclipse/.
